I'm really not interested in Soriano as a second baseman. As he corner OF'r he has much more appeal to me. For 2B I would prefer to get someone who is slick with the glove(in a perfect world Anderson Hernandez would learn to at least .260).

I hope we don't balk at Zito because of the cost. We may have to overpay for him - but that is the cost of doing business. It's a move that would more then likely pay-off as Zito is still relatively young and a move to the NL can't hurt him.

Trading Milledge at this point would be silly. His value is waaay down and there really is no way that we could get decent value for him.

As long as we get another pitcher that can be our ace

Depending on how cheap and the state of his shoulder I'd take a flier on Mulder. He has been so bad and has too many health concerns to be considered an "alternative" to Zito though.

it depends on how expensive Zito is. Personally, I want to see El Duque back next season to just hold down the fort for a while until Pedro comes back. I see no reason to bring back Glavine for next year at the salary that he's due to get.
If we get Zito, this wouldn't be a terrible location

    Zito
    El Duque(till Pedro returns)
    Maine
    Perez
    XX(maybe Pelfrey--I don't know if hes ready though--Bannister? FA?)

I thnk Schmidt would make a better cheaper alternative.

But I don't Mets should be interested in another injury-prone righty nearing his mid-30s

I would love if the Mets sign Carlos Lee, and have him protect David Wright, have Milledge/Green platoon RF and have Milledge take over fully in 2008, our lineup would be absolutely beastly

    From The Metropolitans Blog
Hmmm, interesting I hope he is able to develop and control that pitch because he wasn't able to control the curve at all, if he can get that pitch down, he'll be ready by next year

From everything I've heard believe it or not Lee wants to play in Texas either with the Astros or Rangers. The question is will either of those 2 teams pony up to sign him?

I don't know about Texas, but if Houston doesn't sign him, it won't be due to a lack of funds. Bagwell, Clemens and Pettitte are all off the books, saving more than $40 million.

apparently loduca called for the change and mota shook him off, so it's certainly possible.

Looks like glavine will get a two year deal for 25 mill. i dont know how affective he will be in year two, but he's still a fine pitcher for this upcoming year

Yes, I saw that recently - maybe I missed it at the time, but I didn't realize that Mota had called off the changeup himself (to be honest, given that he had just thrown two changeups, throwing a fastball wasn't necessarily the problem - it was throwing a fastball for a strike that was idiotic).

He actually got away with the first fastball, Spezio crushed it but it was foul. I don't know what Mota was thinking since he threw the next fastball in exactly the same spot. I still would've liked to see Loduca go out to the mound to at least talk about it before giving in and calling for the fastball.

    not exactly surprising, but...

Mets | Heilman wants to join starting rotation
    Wed, 1 Nov 2006 10:10:34 -0800

Ken Rosenthal, of FOXSports.com, reports New York Mets P Aaron Heilman is expected to ask the Mets to join their starting rotation for next season, according to sources close to the pitcher. Heilman made 74 appearances out of the bullpen last year, but would not be happy with that role in 2007. If the team denies his request to join the rotation, it is expected he will ask to be traded.

Ill be happy if we sign
El Duque, GLav, Mota, Bradford, Oliver back

then pursue Soriano (Tell minaya to do the same thing when he was pursuing beltran cuz that obviously worked) And i think he wants to join the Boriqua atmosphere the Mets bring with Reyes, Delgado, Beltran bring. Then go ahead and pursue Zito and that Japanese Nasty pitcher ... if they do ALL this things ... ill be a happy Met camper
