Off to see AC/DC and The Answer tonight, and the Supersukers and Nashville Pussy next week (not strictly metal, but I couldn't find a heavy rock thread).

    ^that's hilarious.

Someone this week told me to check out this band "Black Tide". They're extremely young (their singer/lead guitarist is 15 or 16) but they cite their main influences as Metallica and Iron Maiden so I gave them a shot. I'm pretty impressed. Their lyrics are a cheese-fest, but that'll come with maturity. Their technical skills and sound are really impressive and I'm going to keep an eye on them in the future to see how they develop. They remind me a lot of Paul Di'Anno era Maiden minus the lyrical talent.

On a side note, someone else recommended Bullet for my Valentine to me. Based on their incredibly lame name I haven't given them a shot. Anyone on here want to pass an opinion on them?

    Metal bretheren...

This band isn't all that new but I just recently got into them and can't stop listening to them so I figured I'd spread the wealth and share them with my fellow metalheads....

They are called Job for a Cowboy. A pretty lame name but awesome band nonetheless. I think even the old school heads like Badge will even appreciate these guys.

Nope, don't care for them. I give them some credit for improving between their early EP and their full-length album.

And it's not a matter of old vs. new for me.

I'll make a list of post-1995ish DM bands that I like.

    Aborted
    The Absence (melodic DM)
    Arghoslent
    Arsis
    Behemoth
    Benighted
    Dead Congregation
    Decapitated
    Decrepit Birth
    Gorod
    Hour of Penance
    Krisiun
    Kronos
    Lykathea Aflame
    Mithras
    Nile
    Origin
The Project Hate MCMXCIX (industrial/symphonic DM)
    Psycroptic
    Skinless
    Spawn of Possession
    Zyklon

I'm forgetting a few, my iTunes is missing some of the stuff on my iPod.

I actually hated the EP when it came out cause I thought it was to grind sounding and I hated the pig squeals. I think the full length is absolutely amazing. Vocals are much much better, reminiscent of George Fisher on Evisceration Plague, the newest Cannibal Corpse album.

Yeah we are definitely different breeds of metalhead. The only bands on that list that I'm into are Decapitated (love the percussive sound) and skinless. I did see Nile live many years ago at a God Forbid show I went to.

I think we both started on the same path. My roots are in the older death metal of the late 80's and 90's... Posessed, Deicide, Obituary, Death, Kreator, Entombed etc. Where we differ I think is that in the late 90's I swayed away from metal a little and got heavily involved in the hardcore scene and got more into bands like Strife, Madball, Hatebreed, Earth Crisis, All Out War, Integrity etc... You can probably start to see why I have such an affinity for metalcore. It's sort of a marriage of the two genres. The reason I call you a purist is you seem to have stayed true to being a straight up death metal fan, which I totally respect, but like I said... we are two different breeds of metal head.

Well, I like some hardcore and post-hardcore. Old stuff like Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, Discharge, and newer stuff like Disrupt, Cursed and Made Out of Babies. I'm just not a fan of the way most metalcore bands combine the genres.

For me, the best of both worlds is Napalm Death.

    You don't know metal

    Until you know

    MAN O WAR!!!!

you guys discussed them a while ago but I just came across them....what possess men to dress that way for an album cover? I mean, the death metalbands with decapitated zombie Jesuses on crosses in hell is weird too, but these covers are just embarrassing....

Severed Savior and Vile I've heard songs from but I haven't listened to a full album from either. I used to be into Necrophagist but that kind of faded. Haven't checked out Blood Red Throne or Pessimist yet.
