harp - if the draft was in july than ok but there is no way of knowing that come late april.

at the very least it may not be the slam dunk for the LB in round 1 that many of us, including me, thought it was before this news came out.

me thinks now if upshaw isnt there at 16 they may try to slither down a few notches and go OL.

Decastro will most likely be gone at #16 but I would have no problem trading up to #11-12 for him.

Either Coples, Upshaw, or Ingram will be available at our pick. Most likely Upshaw or Ingram. I don't think we should pass on either guy if they are there at 16.

Yeah, we shouldnt be trading up for anyone really. Barring some miraculous event, like Blackmon making it to around 10 or TRich free falling to somewhere near our pick- 13 or so, I dont think trading up should even be talked about.

Trading up for a guard would be terrible, and I understand how talented DeCastro is, but we are in a position to where SOMEONE VERY TALENTED will be. One of Floyd, Ingram, Upshaw, Mike Adams, DeCastro, Mercilus, Martin, Hightower will be there at 16. We dont have to trade up to get a very good player at a position of need.

I do love vids like this that show the good and bad from a few games. It lets you spend a little tinme to get a clearer picture than sometimes watching a whole game and trying to maintain focus on that one guy for hours.

Here's the thing about projects, they come in different shapes and sizes. Ducasse is a project in the sense that everyone knew at his drafting he would most likely need time before playing. Glenn is a project in the sense that he can start now and be ok, with the potential of being great. You jsut don't fine men his size with those nimble feet very often. Glenn can come in and pass protect at a level of Moore and Slauson now, with the potential to become better. The run blocking is where he needs his most work. If in the interviews you think you have a hard working kid who's willing and able to learn, he's an easy first round grade. If you come away with the feeling that he is not bright or hard working, he becomes an easy pass in the first.

Again, the best QB in the game today was taken in the 6th, Colston was a 7th, Harrison a UDFA. you can always find talent at any position later in the draft, but your chances fall way off, even for lineman. If fact, tackles are often one of the most drafted first round positions. People often say "don't tak a guard that high". Guess what, 10 years ago guards did not make tackle money. Then came Steven Hutchinson, Alan Faneca, and a host of others who got close. Teams realized that an elite guard could mean jsut as much to a line as a center or tackle. Elite talent is elite talent. Having a great guard lessens the need for help and frees up other blockers to help else where ( like the other guard or right tackle). The myth that you don't draft guards early needs to die, because more and more of then are getting drafted early. Hell people are saying we should sign Ben Grubbs as a FA. Guess what folks, there is a another first round guard. Pick your poison, become willing to draft a guard early, be happy with mostly mediocre guard play. or way over pay for one in FA.

Well, if the doctors are willign to say he'll be full speed by june, I go with it. He's going to be limited in spring and full speed by summer unless he is reinjured. It should not make the need for guard any higher because I really feel that we need one to replace Moore.

In otehr words, we need to draft one now, no matter if he's taking Moore's job away from him, or filling in for an injured Slauson. Even without an Injured Slauson, I want a guard to replace the quickly aging Moore who is not what he once was.

    Sure, think outside the box.

Let's draft a pass rusher every year like the Giants.

The first two years we had Faneca, our offensive line was truly amazing. We were running the ball at will for a total of 2,006 yards and 20 touchdowns. The following year we ran for 2,756 yards and 21 touchdowns. We lost to Peyton Manning that year but can't blame that one on our offensive line.

Faneca was very very talented and I don't remember a guard rated as high as DeCastro since Leonard Davis. If Decastro is half as good as Faneca the pick is a winner.

The last time we drafted a pass rusher we had the sixth overall pick and drafted Vernon Gholsten who had a career total of (wait for it) zero sacks. That is because despite from his huge biceps he had (wait for it) zero talent.

Fail to fix the offensive line and it won't matter if you draft Mario Willams. He will rotate in with one of our scrubs as our defense spends 40 minutes on the fiels and the opposing teams will move the chains while he sits on the bench.

A flashy receiver won't do much good either if we can't run the ball.

The guys you are excited about may help put people in the seats but drafting flashy players is not how you win championships.

Trading up to draft somebody who is falling is like betting against the market. The reason the person is falling is that enough concerns have emerged that the market as a whole has discounted their value. Trading up into that is like swimming in molasses. You may make some progress but not what you should be making with the pick.

Even when a player is falling because he's at a position not wanted that year you're making a major strategic blunder to trade up for him. The thing to do in that situation if you're looking for a particular position is trade down get some extra value and get the second best guy at the position, who will be falling for the same market reasons the first guy is: lack of demand.

They didn't draft Cruz on day one either.

Now you are being ignorant. You honestly think a player even remotely close to Mario Williams’ talent would be rotating in with someone like Jamaal Westerman? Really? With that thought process, if we draft DeCastro, how would he get on the field since we already have a starting LG and RG?

Im not againsnt drafting DeCastro, im just against trading up for him and giving up our 2nd round pick. And I think RT is a bigger need than guard, so I would much rather stay put and draft Mike Adams if your biggest focus is building through the OL.

And with our shitty OL this year combined with Schotty’s demented system, our offense and defense managed to have around the same amount of time on the field.

My point is that if the offense can't keep control of the ball the defense will be on the field the majority of the time. If Sanchez and Greene fail to develop due to a repeat of the poor blocking we had last year our defense could spend 35-40 minutes per game on the field. Even if Lawrence Taylor was in his prime today, coaches would rather rotate in a fresh player than have their star pass rusher at half speed because he is winded. Even Revis takes a rest once in a while.

I think our chances of winning it all next year are limited. Even if Brandon Moore can play well this year, what about next year? Replacing Hunter is the minimum we need to do to improve the line. Adding a pro bowl level guard as well will allow us to control the clock and pound the ball like we need to. Cutting Moore would also give us $4.5 mil of cap room when we are very tight against the cap.

Drafting an offensive tackle would be a good move but even at pick 11 we are getting the 3rd or 4th best guy at the position. DeCastro is not only the best guard in this draft, he may be the best we have seen in years.

The only reason our defense wasn't on the field longer is that opposing teams had an easier time passing over the middle as Scott and Leonhard continued to get older.

The Jets were 9th in the league in TOP in 2011. The worst team in the league averaged more than 26 minutes per game, so suggesting that we'd be in the 20-25 minute per game range is quite ridiculous.

That's one player, compared to one of the deepest rosters in the league. Is that your whole argument? Victor Cruz and Vernon Gholston? They have the best pass rush and they just won a second Super Bowl based largely on the merits of their line. You could have picked a better argument. Instead, you picked a terrible one.

My point is that the Giants have done a great job of drafting and scounting overall. Finding players like Cruz in later rounds is why they are successful. Drafting all of those pass rushers got them a couple gems but repeating their drafts by position without the great scouting will not guarantee the same level of success. In fact drafting by position is the opposite of best available player and therefore is the worst strategy possible.
