He’s already gone…he’s a free agent not on our team. I don’t think we will or should resign him. he showed promise as a rookie just due to his size, but his immaturity and lack of work ethic on top of a couple of season ending injuries just pretty much did him in. A more mature guy with a stronger work ethic would have been in better shape and tackled his situation with more diligence. Hard pass on him now
Sign him as a depth piece for cheap money, absolutely. Nothing wrong with having Becton as a backup. Signing him to starter type money, nope.
I'd bring him back on a show me contract. He had a good rookie year, showed promise as a pass blocker, very good as a run blocker. Toward the end of the season, he and G Pat Elflein were opening up huge holes for RBs Josh Adams and Ty Johnson. Of course, it took almost the entire season for coach Gase to realize he had something good there. He was out for 2 years in a row, came back and played the entire season. Coming back into the league after 2 years on the shelf with a new coach and system, with an unsteady QB position, can't be easy to do, so I would cut him a little slack there.
Because right now he’s shopping for starter money. His agent is likely waiting for a camp injury to maximize leverage, but if that doesn’t happen Becton’s options are going to be minimal, so he may come back here on a 1 year backup type deal.
I could see he bouncing around the league on practise squads for a few years because of his "size and potential" - just like Vlad Ducasse - but I think with his attitude he will never become a regular on any NFL team.
A "good citizen" in a contract year but his real attitude came out when he was cut in his social media posts!
When he was not resigned and became a free agent? I don't remember seeing anything from him then. Nor do I care much about social media posts in general.
A change of scenery is best for him I think. Clearly the team doesn't want him back. Man what's happening to Becton now, trading away Zach for what they got. No wonder the SB drought is as long as it is. Can't be missing on top picks like that. I hope this Fashanu guy they got tonight is a HOFer.
We let our first round "franchise" left tackle walk because he sucked, and traded our first round "franchise" quarterback for a bag of marbles. When are we going to admit that JD is not good at his job?
