take it with a grain of salt, but Incarcerated Bob said something about us being interested in Nicks. I know a lot of stuff he says is false, but like I said take it with a grain of salt.
I think the Jets interest in Maclin might be partially due to the fact he might come cheap coming off of a season ending ACL tear. Plus when he's healthy better than anybody on their roster. He might be willing to sign a 1 year contract at low money because he probably won't get a better daal. In this way he can prove himself and then sign a multi-year deal for 2015-. Idzik likes bargain basement players and guys coming off of injuries like Willie Colon who played pretty well for the Jets in 2013.
Thanks for the info. If you're correct, your last sentence is the death knell for him with the Jets as far as I'm concerned. Rex is probably the most undisciplined HC in the NFL. Talib could very well be a disaster and major distraction playing in NYC with Rex as his HC.
I don't think a one-year deal would get it done, and wouldn't be in the best interest either of Maclin or the Jets. He'll want more security, and the Jets should seek to tie him up for at least 2-3 years, so that they're not right back in the same spot next year and then having to overpay.
Signing an injured FA is risky, and Idzik has experience with that (Sidney Rice). Any deal for Maclin, Britt or Nicks would have to include an opportunity for the Jets to get out of the deal quickly.
I wouldnt be surprised if we get Nicks. Im sure Nicks would be interested in a player first coach like Rex and he doesnt even need to move to join the team.
I think we should look at Sanders first. The dude has great arms and extends plays with the best of them. He's quick and can go deep. He's a perfect addition to the team and is just about to enter his prime, plus he's been healthy for most of his career. Maclin, I don't have the same trust in. I'd try out both, but if we're spending, we should spend on Sanders. Maclin should get a cheapo incentive deal.
If Maclin does sign a one year deal (off of an injury) at a bargain rate you'd think he'd go to a known quantity, like Phila or KC. Or another team with a coordinator or offensive coaches he knows. But the Jets could make a case: if he comes here he will probably be the no. 1 Wr thus giving him a great chance to show what he can do. His goal is to probably be a no. 1 somewhere and get a big multi-year deal. That's not going to happen for 2014 because he's coming off of the injury. Idzik does love to get bargains esp injured players who were good players.
