No. Language challenged ? What I said was, today. He's the most polished professional of the three on the roster. This is a guy that suffered a season ending injury, worked to come back, earned a roster spot, started taking reps at a new position, and managed to contribute. Something neither of the other two have done. McKnight is on the way to playing his way from USC to the practice squad, and Washington is struggling on his second pro team.
I'm glad McKnight broke that punt return, I'd like to see him get the hang of it. I only think he'd be cut if he showed nothing, that one play alone might have saved him. I think we'll see a lot of him the next two games and hopefully we see progress. Was it Woodhead who ran for over 200 yards in the pre-season finale last year? I'd like to see McKnight get a game like that to just play and play and see how he does.
It's not going to happen. It's just not. And are you really going to criticize the other two for NOT having to come back from a serious injury? Both of the other two looked better than Woodhead last night. Oh, and do you think there could be any reason why a 3rd year guy would be a more 'polished professional' than a 3rd week rookie?
No. Mcknight Showed up out of shape, and still shows an unwillingness to go hard inside, despite (And I'm not playing Cimini) repeated reports about being asked to do so. And Washington, for whatever physicality he's shown...there has to be a reason he's on his second stint, and still not further up the totem pole. At the end of the day...none of this means jack$#!t...I was just looking to see where the thinking was...some people give answers...some order up vinegar and water...
See, I thought McKnight's inside running showed vast improvement over the week before. Again, he's a rookie. He's not going to look great right now, but he's getting better. The conditioning fiasco was terrible, but he's improved ever since. The expectations people have had for his first two preseason games are absolutely absurd. And I'm getting really tired of the "ship him to the practice squad" business. He'll never make it there. If he gets waived (which he won't), another team picks him up. Guaranteed.
Teams would still sign Jamarcus so I think it is safe to say someone would take a risk on Mcknight's natural talent.
McKnight has only played two NFL games, and limited action at that. And yet, some want him on the PS already? Besides the fact that he won't even clear waivers. He has shown flashes of what the staff wants out of him, and it a work in progress. But for a rookie, not too bad. And I know I saw him have some decent runs inside of the tackles.
Not sure if it's been mentioned but Carolina had most if not all of their first team defense in through the first half while we put our 2nd team offense in early into the second quarter. So pretty much all of the carries McKnight had in the second quarter came running behind our backup OL against their starting front 7.
you guys are insane. Between this and the VG thread I don't know what to think, but at least yous are consistent with trashing and praising. McKnight has two sub-par games, cut or throw him to the practice squad VG has had two good games and THIS IS THE YEAR! Don't get me wrong, I love this, this is what preseason is for, getting high/low expectations and setting up for the "I told you so" threads. But I can't imagine how exhausting it must be to have your opinions about playersd drastically sway with each snap of the ball..
I agree but I think it's a by-product of waiting eight months for anything to happen. People here go nuts over blogs, rankings and mini-camp all year, so when you finally get guys suited up and in games people tend to go a bit overboard.
It will be interesting to see who makes the final cut. From what I understand, didn't Tanny and Rex say on hard knocks yesterday that they were keeping 4 backs. That would mean between Greene, LT, McNight, Washington and Woodhead, one will be put on the practice squad. Based off of Washingtons performance against Carolina (at both RB and Special teams) and Rex's obvious enthusiasm on his performance, I think he end up making the team. McNight will need to show his ability on special teams in these next two preseason games to solidify a roster spot. Rex needs to throw him back on punt returns and see what he can do. I don't like the idea of putting him on the practice squad, but if woodhead outperfoms him in the two upcoming games, the staff has quite a decision to make. Bottom line, is that they need to keep whoever helps the team in the short term. If it is Woodhead, then the staff needs to swallow the Mcknight pick and move on.
I highly doubt they cut a 4th round pick in his first season. Can someone remember a time any team did that?
I don't think woodhead is going to make it, especially after Chauncy's last game, Rex was pumped and even gave him the game ball. And even though they might come to a point where they should just bite the bullet and PS McKnight, I don't think they will
McKnight will make the team based on sheer potential... - His conditioning sucks (after that 75yds return he was out of breath). - His unwillingness to run between the tackles is worrying (abzymul, was I discussing it with you about my opinion on him running between the T's (when we drafted him)? Guess atm I'm right) But they'll want to have him train at the NFL level and work with LT and T-Rex for a year before deciding wether to cut him or not. If we cut him now someone with a shitty RB situation will pick him up no doubt... I hope C. Washington makes the team... been a fan of him since we signed him and think he's the only one that can spell Greene as the bruising back if he goes down...
