I am rooting for McKnight but haven't seen a quick burst from him. Yes, he did have a nice punt return but I came in thinking he would be quicker/faster than he has shown. Anyway, Chauncy Washington looked good until he fumbled the ball. He had a big hit on teams as well. Woodhead is consistent. Never looks bad really. Between the 2 FB's and depth at RB, it's going to be a tough call at final cuts.
exactly. mcknight can be tentative and nervous, i'll accept that... but why doesn't he look explosive? even on the punt return he wasn't really popping. leon spoiled me.
McKnight showed some flaqshes tonight, and that was good to see. OK, now don't go off on me, but he had a TD on the return, all he has to do was outrun the kicker towards the left sideline, and he cut back inside into traffic. To make a comaprison, Leon had better vision. McKnight had a TD there. But, it was g good to see him do well, despite the fumble. Washington also showed flashes as an inside the tackles RB. He fumbled too. I just think we really need a guy like Washignton behind Greene. Right now, I think it looks like Woodhead (who was steady) makes it as a WR, we carry 6 RB's: Greene, LT, McKnight, Washington and Connor and Richardson at FB. If we go to five... is Richardson the odd man out? He is the only one aside from Greene and LT who doesn't play ST's. And he's what 40 or something? That other FB if he isn't picked up will go taxi squad. Clowney had a nice night on ST's too.... could push Woodhead. Who gets cut when Holmes comes back in week 5? Coles? Woodhead? I almost wonder if O'Connel goes to the TS and we keep the old man (who looked awful again) and Kellen. Frankly, I'm thinkin Brunell has to get cut before Sanchez gets to his daughter. Brunell looks like a rookie. On another note, the OL played like shit tonight. And it wasn't because of Slauson either. They broke down in pass protect, D'Brick gave up an easy sack early and they did not generate any push for Greene. Tomlinson found some holes. The offense overall, sucked. It's far from time to panic, but the O has to improve a lot.
Leon Washington will never, ever be able to run between the tackles consistently. I'm not saying Joe McKnight will be able to either, but he definitely has more potential than Washington did as a rookie. We have a guy named LaDainian Tomlinson behind Shonn Greene. He'll do great things for the future of this team. Sanchez finally understands the value of a check down receiver because he has one of the best all-purpose runners to ever play the game in his backfield. I wouldn't be upset if Washington was still on the roster as a return man, but he would be the odd man out here if he stayed. It's obvious. He isn't close to being worth what he was asking for. Washington didn't have a role in this offense and Brad Smith showed how unimportant he was as a kick returner. (Also, bitching about Mark Brunell is completely moronic at this point - I still can't believe that some of you can't grasp why he's here)
There are several things you have trouble grasping, apparently. I was talking about Jets, you know, the guys that played in the game tonight? A guy named Washington..., and his first name ain't Leon? Greene's running style invites injury. CHAUNCEY Washington could share the load for a few games if Greene gets dinged up. Tomlison won't hold up to 25 carries, and McKnight isn't ready, aside from the fact he will never be a workhorse "bell cow" RB. Leon is gone. Who was talking about him at all? I know why Brunell is here... and I'm not sure we need him taking up a roster spot. We have a QB coach. If Brunell ever has to play... we are in deep shit. While many hate Kellen.... he looks better than Brunell, and it aint close.
I seem to remember you bitching about Joe McKnight being "uncoachable" and how Leon Washington was so much better as a rookie earlier in this thread. My mistake for assuming that you were still doing that. The workhorse back is an endangered species in today's NFL. This is a RBBC league now and the Jets are moving in the right direction. We have close to no money invested into the running back position, yet our backs are still productive. If our backfield becomes less productive because of injuries, I'm willing to bet our front office goes after a big time back in the upper rounds of 2011's draft - it should be loaded with talent at the position. If any quarterback on our roster except for Mark Sanchez has to play, our season is over. Mark Brunell is a better game manager than any QB on our roster and hopefully he'll pass some things on to Sanchez. I couldn't seem to remember why I didn't like you until now. You're one of THOSE guys.
I think that's only correct intellectually. I think (and the last two games Brunell has show an inability to hit close plays) that Clemens would be far more effective running the playbook, in a Short passing game, 500 carry a season offense. Now...Could that change? Sure. Brunell has been in the league a long time, and once he knows the playbook and can stop thinking his experience might outweigh Clemens knowledge of the playbook and playing inexperience.... Not today. I think Brunell is here to teach Sanchez, but if Sanchez is down for more than a game..Clemens plays. (right now... 2 months into the season...maybe not)
One more question. Today...right now... Who do you think more consistently will make football plays... McKnight, Washington (Chauncey), or Woodhead? To me Washington looks like the 'potential laden' odd man out. McKnight is the 'Potential Laden guy we picked...lets give him time' Woodhead gets the ball in the spot.
That statement right there is complete and utter horseshit. Brunell is completely done and should be cut immediately. He has looked awful and there is NO QUESTION we have a better chance of winning games with Kellen than Brunell. NONE
Maybe McKnight's speed is hard to see. When he runs, he reminds me of Justin Miller. He's definitely fast, but it's hard to see since he takes long strides.
Are you taking Chauncey Whashington? Or McKnight? Or just being a douche? The bottom line here, is one guy has shown effort, ability and more importantly ...hands. Of the three..the guy that clearly exhibits positive action with the ball is Woodhead. Of course....non-addressed ridicule is the level you work at...because substantive discussion is a little above your paygrade, which was why I was asking someone that actually has a substantive opinion.... As I said on another thread...there are guys that have the Tarzan/Jane thing going on, like Gholston. But today..neither of the other two have shown the knack for translating potential into ability...(which was the question....not 'in another year whose the guy that gets it done')
We havent even seen Joe McKnight with the first team Oline. Plus he has too cool of a name to suck, people.
Look, I like Danny Woodhead for his effort and shiftiness, but what exactly did you see last night to tell you that he's consistently demonstrated the most ability? He had two positive runs and they were both on draw plays on passing downs. As for his hands, I was watching on the computer so it may have been different, but didn't he drop a very catchable pass? I thought McKnight and Washington, aside from the fumbles, both looked better than he did last night. I'd like to see a few more targets in the 4th game (he won't play much in the 3rd) to see what his hands are like, but last night didn't give much of an indication.
