agreed. McKnight seems to be the new jet that everyone loves to hate. Rex likes what he has. rex makes the decisions regardless of what we think. The team drafted the guy for a reason. I doubt many fans know more then Rex, T and staff about players potential.
We should "can" our scout because of McKnight... Tanny requested a trade up for Greene? Who did he give the request to himself? Now Sanchez is to blame because of McKnight... Wow. Are you reading the crap you are spewing, and thinking that any of it is logical?
I dont think McKnight will be cut he is just to talented, it seems he has mental problems of grasping the NFL style. I mean maybe he gets demoted to the practice squad but thats about the worst possible situation
no, you do not fire a scout who has done a great job for the past several years for messing up a fourth round pick.
Because over half the people on the first page agreed that he should be cut, so other people were afraid to voice their opinion.
I honestly didn't read the thread because I didn't want to tear people's opinions apart, but holy shit I can't believe what's on that 1st page. So reporters take what they see from a TV show and then speculate heavily speculate that this kids future might be in jeopardy, even though its his 1st camp and he has so much potential.......... That's fuckin retarded on the readers part for being inept at realizing its sensationalist bullshit. Give the kid a while to get this shit. But then again, there was a strong faction that was convinced D'Brick was a bust.
Both Leon and McKnight were drafted to be CoP RB's. When the Jets brought in Suggs and Barlow they were looking for a 20 carry bell cow, and that had nothing to do with Leon. Leon was always an underdog type of player. McKnight was the most highly recruited HS football player in the nation. Hardly anyone saw Leon play in college. McKnight played for USC. Anyone who expected Leon to be anything other than a project were kidding themselves. McKnight should be much farther along at this point than he is now. Leon also didn't have as much competition for his roster spot, McKnight does. While Leon took some time to develop, I recall the CS talking about what a great kid he was with a great work ethic. I hear none of those comments about McKnight. Yes, it was on Hard Knocks, but Ryan was clearly displeased with McKnight against the Giants. If I heard Ryan say at least one good thing about McKnight, I'd feel differently. The closest thing to that so far was during the Giants game when Rex said "Use that speed!"... followed by a groan when McKnight failed to turn upfield. Let me ask this: What has McKnight done to give you so much confidence in him?
hahahahaha The scouting report said it was going to take this kid a while to develop into his frame... Doesn't everyone remember how he bulked up after two years? He was still growing and working out. I also remember he was next to Kendall and Clarke before Faneca. And his third year, also known as the "breakout year" he has a legitimate LG next to him in Faneca, who moreso taught attitude and toughness to the entire line than anything else.
Its called being patient. If we all did this with most players in the NFL, the Jets would consist of about 35 players on the entire roster. Even Gholston got a whole season before it was a foregone conclusion he can't play football. But McKnights a football player, and one with the ability. He just needs time. He still thinks he can outrun people, or use two moves before he hits a hole to shake LBs out of his way. You can't do that in the NFL, and he'll learn it. One preseason game, and all of the sudden we want to crucify this kid. He made one hell of a stiff arm and got 12 yards out of it. He's being taught by LT and Greene and even Holmes is getting involved because they see how truly gamebreaking he can be. I think as fans we should sit on our hands until this kid proves he's useless. Because getting on his case now would do nothing. I find Woodhead useless as a WR, but then again he's white so he has staying power.
well did you watch the preseason game? did you see the nice run mcknight had up the sideline showcasing his shiftiness? Because they didnt show it during hardknocks... willing to bet that rex was pretty excited about that run too.
They were drafted in the same position, so expectations certainly shouldn't be any different. Who McKnight was supposed to be coming out of high school doesn't change the fact that, for the position he was drafted in, we shouldn't be expecting greatness in 2 weeks. And Leon played for Florida State, not some mid-major. Plenty of people saw him play. I remembered him from the Gator Bowl, so yes, I was pretty excited when we drafted him. Again, they were both drafted in the same position. Why does McKnight get higher expectations slapped on him as far as his development? Like I said in a previous post, he came in with a monster line blocking for him and was a zone runner in the college game. The NFL is MUCH faster, and for a zone runner in particular, his reads are going to have to come up to speed. I'm not surprised at all that he's having a tough transition. Given what I know about pre-draft training, his minicamp conditioning problems were also somewhat unsurprising, although highly disappointing. Leon actually had 4 players vying for roster spots once Barlow was signed. All 4 made the team. With 2 FBs making the team, I see 3 strict RBs plus Woodhead on the roster. I don't see Chauncey Washington as serious competition for McKnight. I'd guess Woodhead makes it as a slot receiver, at least for the first 4 weeks before Holmes returns. At that point, it comes down to him and Coles IMO. What has Washington done to inspire YOUR confidence that he'll make the roster? Of COURSE Ryan was displeased with McKnight against the Giants. Everyone was. There's a vast difference between being displeased with his first preseason game and suggesting that it's grounds for his immediate dismissal. That's the difference of opinion here. You should read more articles if you haven't heard any positives. Or maybe you're coloring the language because of a dislike for him. I don't really know. You certainly don't have to like the guy, but I'm certainly going to point out that the calls for him to be cut quickly are silly. As far as confidence in McKnight, I don't think that's the right term for it. I have confidence in his potential, and we haven't even gotten an honest chance to see that. I watched him play a LOT at USC, especially when Sanchez was there. The people disappointed in him at USC are the people who expected him to be the next Reggie Bush. He's not. He doesn't have the same kind of once-in-a-lifetime moves that Reggie Bush has. However, he IS a better pure zone RB than Reggie was. I know he CAN be very successful in our system. It's up to him whether he will. Two weeks into the preseason, however, is not nearly enough time to make that determination.
Here's a video for you, Tbird. I'll preface it by saying that I don't give a shit about how he runs away from defenders. He's not going to be able to do that in the NFL. I care about his decisiveness and his first cut. For a runner like him, it'll take a bit of time before the NFL slows down for him. I know you saw Hard Knocks, saw him fall into a pile. Saw him get ankle tackled after a cut against the Giants. The gaping holes he had at USC aren't quite going to be there, but our first team line is one of the best zone blocking lines out there. I want to see him with them, and I want to see him continue to be decisive. If he does, he'll start making the right cuts and hitting his holes. I agree with all of this, although I think Woodhead makes the roster for the first 4 weeks on a trial basis as a slot receiver. He'll alternate with Coles on the VERY rare occasions when we go 4 wide. I think Clowney gets axed before him, but I could be wrong. The funny thing about him making a couple of moves in the backfield is that it's really not the kind of runner he was at USC. They just need to tell him to start running and let his instincts take over. Forget 3 or 4 yards, he may miss the right hole entirely a few times, but his decisiveness will eventually make him an excellent fit.
