Agreed. You can't single him out. They should either vote for all of these guys or none of them, I don't really care which. Sosa and Bonds also have HOF numbers, but I doubt anyone is going to vote them in either. I really think that in the end, few if any of these player that admitted to or were clearly linked to roids/HGH will get in. A-Rod might be the exception IF his numbers don't fall off badly in the next couple of years. All the other ones that weren't linked or didn't admit probably don't have the numbers to get in anyway.

After watching this interview of him with Costas, you understand why he waited to let this out. Doesn't change that what he did was wrong, but it really seems like he's paid the price for this whole ordeal in more ways than losing the Hall of Fame. Even though he clearly made some bad decisions, I kind of feel bad for him.

He's a cunt. Once again this is all about him. I'm listening to all the interviews now for the first time and it sickens me how delusional some of his comments are, especially as he rationalizes not only his use of the drug but also his performance in front of Congress (and tells us all we'd do the same thing). The idea that this didn't help his statistical totals is ridiculous... the idea that he is just coming clean for the sake of coming clean (as opposed to trying to salvage his HoF chances, or to kick starts his career in MLB as a hitting coach) is ridiculous... he could have come clean several years ago for the Mitchell committee, or even when his brother outed him... but he didn't because he had nothing to gain then.

Am I surprised by this? No. Do I hate Mark for doing the drugs? No. What I don't like is the smug and blatant attempt at manipulation of the baseball community and rationalization or what he's done. I'm still waiting for one of these guys to really "come clean" and level with the public with no ulterior motive. That would be refreshing.

I'm most surprised that people still care.

McGwire does not care about getting into the HOF. McGwire just wants to get back into the MLB and he wants to teach.

One of my buddy's is a personal trainer & he met McGwire. He said that it was obvious that McGwire was using steroids, in that he that steroid acne on his arms, etc. After using for 10 years, I was surprised that McGwire looks as healthy as he does, now.

What I don't understand is why Tony LaRussa was so blind/dumb??!! LaRussa loves McGwire like a son. They said on Sporting News that, it is the same as lying for a good friend.

Tony LaRussa has always been high class...especially in doing tons of work for animal rescue.

However, LaRussa seems to have dropped the ball in the McGwire situation, in that, he just stood by, while McGwire was doing a lot of damage to his body, for TEN YEARS!!!???

This is one of those rare occassions where you and I are in complete agreement.
    ----------

Oh, and Tony LaRussa is a prick. He knew damned well what his players were doing. He was winning though, so he didn't give a damn. He's, at best, a liar, and at worst, a pusher.

I'm not absolving steroid users, but all the moral outrage coming from the media is fucking boring and predictable at this point. Hitters, on steroids, hit bombs of pitchers that were juicing, while writers profited from the excitement surrounding the game.

People commonly say that steroid use is evil because of the negative health effects and how it will influence children. Over the past few years though I've really started to wonder how likely it is that all of the head injuries sustained by (probably PED using) NFL players hurt them in ways that far outweigh the side effects of steroid use on anyone. At first glance it definitely seems like it could be the case, though I'd love to read a study done on this from a person who isn't pulling this out of his ass on a message board.

ESPN should stop talking about it.

It's been over 24 hours and they're still going strong, with it leading Sportscenter.

What's the big deal? Everyone assumed he used steroids anyway, plus the "I'm not here to talk about the past" was a tacit admission.

So now he issued an "official admission"? Big deal.

Bonds didn't even have the Congress moment, and I would think of it as minor if he admitted to using steroids as well. We all know Bonds used a ton of steroids and other crap. We also know he's a scumbag. Him making an official statement wouldn't mean much at all.

    2 reasons:

    1) Haven't you ever had a stupid friend? One of my best friends has struggled with drug problems, and as much as I try to get him to stop hurting his body and messing up his life, at the end of the day only he can determine his own actions. Just because I strongly disapprove, however, doesn't mean that I'm gonna go ahead and turn him in to the cops.

    2) From a more cynical perspective, Big Mac helped La Russa make his career. Speaking out against him would raise serious questions about La Russa that I'm sure he'd prefer not be raised.

The only way Mark McGwire gets to the hall of fame is if he's the illustration of an exhibit explaining the ridiculous home run numbers of the 90's and early 00's as the byproduct of cheating with steroids.

The hall should be removing his bat (70 HR) assuming they have not already done so.

The one guy who would have made the hall of fame without steroids but totally screwed things up is Barry Bonds. He should also be black-balled and part of that exhibit. I'd have to look at A-Rod and a few other guys to see where I stand but I suspect they should be black-balled too.

The thing is sportswriters KNEW about McGwire....remember the famous Andro bottle in the locker story?

The Steroids issue is fucking garbage. I wish they went after the NFL like this...it's fucking stupid. Teddy Bruschi is pumping out retarded kids, and no one says shit. Bullshit witch hunt and only the major stars are getting hunted...no one gives a shit if Alex Sanchez or some other garbage player did steroids...the evil doers are the guys who're good anyway. They're athlete...entertain me...if they were figuring out the problems of the world then their steroids issue is an issue. All they're trying to do is be better in their chosen field.

Notice how that little story has not been revisited.

That Jerkoff killed a whole legal supplement industry.
