I disagree. In all the games I've watched, McFadden loves contact. I've seen him many times get him and then either slip away of stiff arm the poor guy. He's got incredible upper body strength and knows how to use it to his advantage. I'm not going to pretend like I saw every Arkansas game this past year but when I did watch them, I made it a point to concentrate on McFadden when he was on the field to see if he was worth the hype. I came to the conclusion that I don't think he's "by far" the best player in the draft, but he's definitely top 4 (with the longs and Dorsey) and is worth the #6 overall. And yes, his vision pre-snap of seeing how a play's going to work out and being able to cut at just the right time reminds me a lot of Dickerson. I'm not saying he's Dickerson 2.0 but he's got certain qualities that remind me of him.
Bush and McFadden have COMPLETELY different games. It's not even close. Citing their heights and weights and saying that they're comparable is irrelevant. That's pretty cool about how most college programs don't incorporate squatting, I didn't know that. I guess the fact that McFadden never squatted isn't too unusual then. The fact that he usually fumbles in the open field is better than the alternative I guess, but that seems to indicate that his ball security drops as he kicks it into high gear. You can't necessarily say that it's easily correctable because he may not be able to run in that extra gear when he focuses more on ball security. Give Tannenbaum a little more credit than that. You can't trust anything that these coaches and GM's say before the draft: they lie like rugs. I saw a video two years ago where Romeo Crennel unequivocally said that the Browns would obviously draft either of the two big men (Brick or Ngata) if they were available at their pick, but that neither probably would. Ngata fell, and the Browns passed, instead swapping picks with the Ravens who picked one pick after them. These guys make their living out of sending mixed signals and being unpredictable. Who's to say which signals are indicators of their true intentions. I guess I agree that his power isn't on the elite level, but I have seen him put down his shoulder and get a few extra yards. Granted he may not be on the AD level of being able to lower his shoulder and go through multiple people and still stay upright on his feet, but few people are. I think that the fact that there are few videos of him taking direct contact can be seen as a good thing. You don't really want your running back seeking contact, and many times the best always seemed to shift just slightly and not take a big hit. The fact that he doesn't take a lot of direct hits is a testament to his speed and instincts, I think.
Even if they don't, it's still extremely weird and worrisome. What HS injury are they trying to protect him from? It's been 4 years since HS, are they still scared? If so, why? If they kept him away from squatting for 3 years in college, how long does the effects of these injuries last? How do they affect his future? Give me RBs built like this: Over this: Theres a reason why your typical RB is built thick, muscular, with a low sense of gravity...it's no joke the pounding that position takes.
IMHO Jonathan Stewart is the best player at any position coming in this draft. I respect thatthe jets may take a DE or CB instead of him because we have a "need" at those positions but if we're going to take an RB...Jonathan Stewart is the man.
ESPN kept commenting on DMAC's explosiveness but also said he has poor lateral movement. He is just a north south runner. The clips they were showing of him once he had to change direction were questionable. Once he stopped it was like you had to wind him up. Just not impressive.
ROTFL @ the idea that McFadden's hands are just as good as Bush. Bush might have the best hands of any RB prospect ever... And being a HS QB doesn't really give you a great sense for the game...but you never know.
2 > 1 Say you were banging Jessica Alba/Biel/Simpson and she said hey lets have a threesome with another extremely hot girl...would you reply "if you're so good why was should another girl see my dick?" I think thats a decent analogy, right?
McFadden usually stayed in when Felix was in too. They were both in in the Wildcat offense. http://youtube.com/watch?v=KR76aoKghM8 They mixed in Felix because his speed made defenses stay honest and not just key in on McFadden.
Quote: "...In all the games I've watched, McFadden loves contact. ..." DMC likes to run into people who are equal to or smaller than him. His OL at Arkansas had a way of opening up the path into the secondary for him. We'll see what happens to DMC in the NFL. I'm not saying he is not a good back. I just feel that watching his dominance in college is one thing, and not the NFL.
Yeah I didn't have the chance to see them play much so I'll take your word for it. Was just pondering the whole thing and trying to figure out why i just don't feel good about DMC.
Mangini loves the trick plays and versatility players. I could seem him being secretly in love with Mcfadden since he can do it all. He is like a Brad Smith but 100x better. It would be very exciting having a player like that on the team.
On the Money Kellen. There is no way the Raider faithful can pass on the son of an Icon for their franchise.
Dickerson, by the way, never won anything. He also came up small in big spots and had a tendency to fumble at inopportune times in big games. He was not a winner.
Like I said, McFadden is not Dickerson. Coming up small in big spots wasn't because of his running style, it was oviously part of his mental makeup.
here is a main reason I would rather have Gholston than DMC if he is there at #6. "DMC fumbled 23 times in the past three years, more than any other runner in the country." - from Sports Illustrated If you think about that in 3 years he played about 33 - 35 games, that is nearly a fumble every 5 quarters.....and besides that his scrawny legs will get blown out just like that speedster kick returner who was a back up wide receiver in the Herm era...what was his name? He was fast as shit but had skinny legs and ended up blowin out his knee, I remember a game against the Colts in 04 I believe where he had a sweet kick off return.
Mcfadden Fumbles were something of an enigma. He had 15 last year and 7 his first two seasons. I personally think mostly it was it was flukes, because in the LSU game he had 3 fumbles but 2 of them were on punt returns. His vision is great, he reads his defense and his blocks extremely well. He looked good at the combine, made all the catches, made all the cuts. He would be a very good draft pick.
