No pocket presence? Really? Ok... No arm strength? Yeah, all of his throws were 20 yards underthrown. Yes, McElroy outplayed Sanchez. Put Sanchez in there, do you think we would have won? I most certainly do not. We'd probably have 2 more interceptions and 3 more fumbles...
I'm assuming you don't understand how football works, the guy was awful. His arm strength has notihng to do with the ball being underthrown, it has to do with no zip, and to be honest he didn't throw any balls deep because the staff knows he can't make the throws downfield. So you think all 11 sacks where because our OL is really that bad?
Some of them were on him, but for the most part, our OL did an abysmal job of blocking today for some reason. His arm strength did enough to get us down the field a couple of times. I don't know how you can say he's awful and proclaim with certainty that Sanchez will start next year. Why don't we give him the Buffalo game to decide whether or not he's truly awful, or maybe servicable enough to be a backup.
The OL blocked like this before this game. The idference is that Ssanchez would throw the ball into coverage to avoid this, McElroy chose to take the sacks instead.
And that's far smarter than to fucking throw into coverage. I'd rather live for another down than to turn the ball over. For those saying 'McElroy is sooo awful'. With this blocking, would Sanchez have won this game? Or even had us in the position to make a comeback?
That's not the argument. Everyone is trying to act like this was the first time the OL played poorly. IT wasn't. THe sack numbers are just really high because instead of throwing, McElroy took the sack. The OL played like this a lot of the season.
You have to understand the game is 4 quarters, not one. What McElroy did in the 1st quarter was because the Chargers didn't know what to expect. There was 1 quarter of game film available on this guy. Not exactly something to make a gameplan out of. Once they made their adjustments it's not a coincidence that he was sacked how many times in quarters 2-4? How many passing yards did he have after the 1st quarter? How many rushing yards did we have after the 1st quarter? The Chargers didn't blitz in the 1st quarter but once they knew exactly what the Jets had in McElroy the floodgates opened.
Well, I guess it falls on McElroy to adjust to the increased pressure for the Buffalo game, now is it? This game is meaningless in everything (division standing, playoff implications, etc...we're not going to be in last place, even losing to Buffalo due to tiebreakers). McElroy is a smart guy. I bet he'll be able to do fine next week. If not, it is what it is. But, to down him like this after one start while passively making excuses for Sanchez's 14 shitty ass starts is really stupid.
No he didn't. Not even close. Be a dark slider that's fine, if you think Sanchez is not your openening day starter next year, you clearly don't comprehend the picture.. He on the bench because he's getting EIGHT FUCKING MILLION DOLLARS, at least come hell or high water,,, and Howard, and Sparano, are endangering that..l.llwhich part of that equation escapes your ability to grasp, math...land logic.,l. Maybe you could give the class a scenario where the NFL gives the Jets a MAGICAL exception, and they unload Mark. I'm all ears
Hobbes one of the two things will happen. 1. They cut Sanchez and eat the salary 2. They keep him on the team as a backup/3rd string for '13 he is NOT gonna start next season if he is with the Jets unless we get a repeat of 2005.
We're not unloading him. I would be surprised if we do. We'll just make him one of the highest paid backups in the NFL. Nothing wrong with that. Name me one aspect in which McElroy did not outplay Sanchez this season? Keep in mind this is his first start
So you think we start Sanchez because of his contract? We aren't going to tuck him away on the bench and let him stick there? I understand if we get a new OC letting him compete for the job, but I don't see him winning it
McElroy should never touch a football in the NFL ever again, that was the most pathetic and uninspired display behind center I've ever witnessed.
This is a joke, our money is in Sanchez. Greg is no better, id let Sanchez finish just to see if hes taking shit seriously or not,
Didn't he get more passing yards in those 2nd-3rd quarters than he had in the 1st? If we as fans had to sit back and put things into perspective when Sanchez was a rookie/2nd year player, when Sanchez went through his growing pains we had to take it for what it's worth because he was a young player. Then why can't McElroy get that same benefit of the doubt? Given the circumstances, being inactive most of the season, hardly practicing with the starters, lack of reps etc, he played fairly well. Now I understand that he is a 7th rounder and wont get the benefit of the doubt Sanchez got, but the point is that we had to tolerate Sanchez mistakes because of his years in the league, then for now we should give McElroy that same benefit of the doubt. He is a young player and just like most young players they will make mistakes. How can the verdict on McElroy be written based on ONE game? Do I think he's the answer? No, not even close but we're seeing what we have in him, and he's done well under the circumstances. He can only improve, but he probably wont be given the opportunity.
I would suggest you stop reading the news, and watching the film, and absorbing the facts. His biggest problem is decision making, but conversely he's been asked to hold on to the ball too long. That's how you got ELEVEN sacks today. Simms said a game or two ago..No gimmes. No 6 yard tosses. The difference in talent was obvious today. Next year, Norv...starts with Holmes,Edwards,Keller,Cumberland,Kerley!hill... Not Sparano, with Gilyard,Gates, and Rheuland. Is anyone even watching the effing games? Tell me what QB would be spot on with Gates,Gilyard, and Rdheuland?
