Well, in retrospect the guy I wanted in that draft isnt playing because he's a sexual predator...

I don't get it - if he's completely worth the money and the Jets need a decent safety why not get him signed and move on to fill in another hole in the lineup? Is there somebody else at the same price point who can outperform him? Do you think how he got here or who is agent is should be a factor that keeps from making such a deal? Is it the DWI?

I think it's the system. You don't need top safeties or even top CBs. you just need people who are fast and smart and cheap then you invest the money in the d-line so you can get pressure with 4 only. Thats what saleh did in SF. tons of pass rushers, and he made meh CBs looks great. Just like we are getting out of echols, hall, guidry, and carter II. JD is bets off spending that 12 mil to bolster the lines. more rushers and a RG. maybe even TE or WR to supports his rookie QB

And getting 2 1st round + a 3rd round draft picks in return for Jamal Adams is actually a great return.

it IS a good return... BUT... those selections left us with such a depleted roster that its merely treading water in stormy seas

    (along w/ #6 and 3 2nd rnders for Sam)

Is Marcus Maye worth 12M a year.............probably not in isolation. But if we're having to pay an extra 2 or 3 million over his real value because he's been a good Jet, played good football on a team that has stunk for years and is one of the few vets we have in place then I'd say pay the man.

Sure we could spend the money on an area of need such as a tight-end or pass rusher but if that were the case then why haven't we done that already?

Perhaps they don't come FA's so often (and when they do why'd they sign here)?

Perhaps you have to draft and develop these type of players and maybe even establish a track record of extending and rewarding those players you draft who actually perform at an NFL level for you.

I would trade Maye at this point. The red flags are too high to pay the guy what he's asking.

His age Is a factor. Injury issues are a factor.

The biggest issue I have and I think JD should have as well.

You got to be an absolute idiot to risk a DUI when you are In the middle of a contract year. On top of that, he tried to hide the shit, left the scene of the damage.

The dudes demeanor. It remind me of MoWilks issues after he got paid. He checked out.

It's just not worth the risk. IMO.

Let the guy go and get a 2023 pick for him, as we have enough 22 capital.

I swear this fan base wants us to keep bang average players like maye and Anderson because we suck and they have fond memories.

29 next year, hides a DUI, injured, wants paid above his level and also playing in scheme thats new to him.

Good luck Marcus, it's a hard league when you come out so late, but go get your pay day somewhere else.

I wonder how that would look right now with Maye out on injury and having hidden a DUI from the team.

I'm sure everyone on TGG would be incredibly understanding and not crucify Douglas at all.

I would too, but it's difficult enough for them to trade a player on the franchise tag. Trading him after he lied to the team about a substance related legal incident?

    Good luck.

I agree. I guess I should rephrase with... I just wouldn't pay the guy big money at this point, regardless of what that means from a compensation standpoint.

It wasnt a coincidence that the defense couldnt get off the field against Atlanta. Maye one of the few players that plays every single snap was missing. Get ready for more of that I guess
