Good post, Colorado! I agree. While I wish they were there now, I'm not going to get to upset about it. Besides, I'm too excited about the Jets hiring Douglas! I really think this is the start of a golden era of Jets football.
It also should help rookies and depth-type players as they will be better prepared to compete and to play if needed.
The QB is different. Of course everyone would be upset if Sam skipped OTAs. If the Jets or the players who aren't there struggle early in the season, there will be plenty of time to be pissed then. For now just enjoy the breath of fresh air and the good things that are on our way.
I don't volunteer to work I get paid to work. I have no problem with a professional athlete not going to work for free.
I guess you're not fond of team building activities... That's ok. Me? If I sucked the year before and was getting paid $14.5 million this year... I'd be there with a big fucking smile on my puss.
They get paid for OTAs, a per diem. No one shows up for free The “volunteer” aspect just refers to their contracts, the teams can’t fine them for not showing up
per diem isn't getting paid it's a living expense to cover an employees living expenses when traveling for work. Lets say the Jets decided to hold voluntary OTA's in Bora Bora and took the families of the players along with the players. That would be taxable income along with team building.
I’m sure the vocal minority here would show up with bells on if their boss said “you don’t have to come in today”.
