Wow, I always liked Mawae. I guess we're rebuilding all-out, but I will miss him. We've actually been pretty lucky with centers over the years--Joe Fields, Jim Sweeney, Mawae. A good list, let's hope it continues. I've had the FAN on all day, I'm alone at work because of the snow, everybody left. They haven't mentioned it at all, not even on the 20/20.
Yeah, Seafood. I've got the FAN on too and it's really quiet about the Jets. The only thing they discussed was about an hour ago in which Mike speculated that Penny had a "60-40 chance" of getting cut. Doggy-style chimed in and said he's rather keep Penny but "not go crazy," meaning, don't pay him too much. Other than those comments, there hasn't been any other mention of the Jets.
Uh yeah, going to be 36, played like shit before a significant injury (at his age), and well yeah that's about it. So yup, bye bye washed up vet. GL to a team that might be able to squeeze one more above average year out of you (if you stay healthy). I feel bad to the team that maybe (probably won't even be any) will give you big money.
I agree that Mawae isn't washed up. But as previously stated it's better to release a player to early than too late. Plus this opens up more cap room for hopefully younger acquisitions. We won't be playing for a championship next year so this is the right move. I wish Mawae well and hope he goes out and gets himself a shot at a championship.
I like the move, he will be way too old when we are ready to compete again so why keep him around just to be a vet on a losing team....
I think he sealed his own fate when he got on the radio with his agent yesterday. He certainly was a very good center. He used to be one of my favorites, but I've soured on him over the last year and a half or so. He probably has another year or two left in him.
I haven't been able to find this anywhere on the net. He probably was cut, but no one is reporting it. Sites like KFFL report everytime someone takes a dump, but not this.
