It was great watching him pull from center to block downfield. Looks like the Eagle will have themselves a hell of a center....
These guys in the FO are not playing any games are they? No more Camp Shangrala. Mawae is a suprize. When Parcells brought him here and paid him a good buck to do so, Parcells said, "You can't do anything in this league without a good center". Bill knew what he was talking about.
The difference is that cutting Pennington would cost money against the cap if he wouldn't restructure (lots of it), while cutting Mawae saves it (and Mawae wouldn't restructure). Sounds like good money management to me.
I'm no capologist, but there is no way that cutting Pennington would save more this year than him restructuring - that's the entire point of restructuring. Personally, I had no trouble with him getting cut and them taking the entire $12M hit this year, since I think the team is going nowhere in 2006.
Real sorry to see Kevin go. He was a great Jet. Who ever snaps for us in the future has big shoes to fill. My lasting memory of him will be him clubbing Zach with that ridiculous bandaged hand in Miami.
Sorry, I thought you meant that cutting him would give us a big cap hit, when in fact we would save a little money. Yes, we would save more if he restructures.
Later Mawae... You were a great Jet but it was time for you to go.... good luck where ever you end up.
Breaking his hand and then snapping with the left really shows just what kind of player Mawae was. He'll definately be missed.
Jim Sweeney went on to have quite a few more productive seasons with the Seahawks and Steelers, I thought we got rid of him way too early as well. All this talk of how Mawaii lost a step is only our opinion based on one lousy season in which he was injured and surrounded by other linemen that weren't getting the job done. Don't be surprised to see Kevin in the pro bowl next year once again. Then, will we all still be talking about that step he lost? Stick around this team enough years and watch history keep repeating itself. James Hasty ring a bell, anybody?
If he's an All-Pro, then we'll talk. He has a great reputation around the league, it shouldn't be hard for him to make the Pro Bowl.
