i dont understand this talk about our line compared to jacksonvilles line. if you ask me, jax has a worse oline than us, thats why blaine gabbert is on the ground literally every play. MJD is just that good of a player, he makes plays out of nothing and is a true 3 down back. we'd be foolish to not inquire about him, he'd make wayne hunter look better. people would be way more focused on him than everything else would would allow sanchez to do well in PA
sshhhh, that makes too much sense. because we need help at RT that means Drew can't help the team and he obviously compiled his stats behind a monster O-line which is why he couldn't do the same here.
We have a huge need at RB; we're a team focused on the ground-and-pound and committed to the run but our group of RBs is probably bottom five or so in the league.
His point is that remember when everyone said we would only have room to sign one of the Big 4 FAs? Then Tannenbaum brought back Harris and Holmes and got under the cap far enough to make a huge offer to Nnamdi. They can get under the cap if they need to, they're already $6 million under as it is.
Anybody arguing that they shouldnt inquire because of the line is just out of their minds...MJD is an absolute stud and difference maker, doesnt matter who his line is. Bottom line is they can't afford him, so it won't happen.
Sure it does but MJD isn't getting more than $8 mil a year (that's what Chris Johnson got for his holdout last year). A couple of small cuts and restructures and Tannenbaum could find $2 mil fairly easily, I would think.
I don't think Greene is the problem but MJD is a franchise player he'd be the best back the Jets have had since #28. MJD & Tebow would give the Jets an off the charts rushing attack impossible to defend and they'd open up EVERYTHING downfield. I think Greene and a mid-round pick gets it done.
The reason MJD wants a newly guaranteed deal that extends until he is about 30 is pretty simple. Last year he was the entire Jag offense. They gave him 343 carries and he caught another 43 balls for them. That was his 26 year. This year if he goes back to them on the same deal with 2 more years left on it they're going to give him the same kind of load, maybe even pushing it a bit. They have little incentive to maintain his body so that he can play another 5 years. They only have his rights through 2013. In 2014 they'll be looking for another back to carry the load. One who is not heading into his 29 year. One who does not have 2,200 carries already. So it makes sense for him to push things now. If he can get locked up under a 5 year deal from now then the new team (or the Jags) will have all the incentive in the world to make sure he's still playing for the life of that contract. That means he'll get 290-300 carries a year tops, not 340-360, It means he'll have value to the team that extends out to the point that he values his own career. Unlike Darrelle Revis, who could very easily play until he is 35 and earn over that entire period, MJD is likely going to be done by 31 or 32. He might stretch to 33 at the outside if he's used wisely at this point because contrary to popular belief the wear on his tires is only average at this point, not high.
I'm saying that a playoff-contention team needs to turn around and fill the holes created by the cuts, which is really only possible during the offseason (or maybe right after cuts down to 53). Now could we, theoretically, trade a player to the Jags to open up that cap space? It's preferable but we'd still have holes to fill.
