Hmm... that's a good point. The problem is we don't know what kind of production we'll get out of Powell or McKnight. Would the money spent be worth the production increase on the field? We don't know. And the Jets would have to move at least one decent player to do the deal, but who?
Also we have to remember when the Jets were sucessfully running ground n' pound we had Faneca and Woody on the line. Can we really run ground n' pound behind Slauson and WFH? Uh... I just feel we all know what the biggest problem is and it isn't RB.
Then start to learn: http://www.nyjetscap.com/ Greene is cut saves us $388,750 or in NFL terms, next to nothing if we move him.
This post... yeesh. I don;t think even the most over the top sunshiner Jets fan would suggest that Green is in the same league talent wise as MJD. Jones-drew is a much more capable runner, worlds better out of the back feild as a receiver and better in pass pro. He is one of the top few backs in the game today on an offense that is less talented than our over all he put up better numbers than shonn.
How exciting would it be to hear "The Jets have just traded for Maurice Jones Drew" Instantly our offense looks substantially better. There is a Superbowl coming to NY soon you know!
no doubt he'll probably end up with the pats or something anyway. I'd give up a lot for him...him in our backfield and we're back to being lethal running it. I'd give 'em Tebow (who'd sell the stadium out there)Joe McKnight, Wilson...and a 2nd for Jones-Drew. Obviously he's worth more but now that's he's demanding a trade the return diminishes.
Put MJD behind this line and he's coming away with the same YPC at Shonn Greene, 4.2 a carry and he'll be happy to get it. If they wanna throw their money away that's fine, but don't expect a huge production boost behind this line no matter who they sign.
Only because its the Jaguars I think they trade MJD for Tebow, Greene and a 2nd round pick if we can afford it. Jones Drew is the type of playmaker we need on our team
If we trade for anything it needs to be a premier OL. Id rther pay 8 mil a year for a top tier player at a position people can play into their mid 30s. Not 8 mil a year to a rb pushing 30 with an incredible amount of mileage on his legs Who we have at wr/rb/qb doesn't matter till this OL gets fixed
Considering the Jets o line I think Greene would have a better ypc than MJD. I like MJD but how many games have the Jags won the past few seasons? Opposing teams are happy to let the Jags run when they are down 17 points. The money they would have to spend on him is not worth the return. Invest in a rt. tackle!
Couldn't agree more. To ground n' pound you need the horses up front to support it, and this team doesn't have it right now.
Very well said, and very good point about letting teams rack up yardage in junktime, whether it's through the air or on the ground when the outcome is a foregone conclusion none of the stats matter.
MJD would be just fine behind the current line. Fits this team to a T. The Jags don't exactly have a bunch of road graders plowing the way for him down there. Greene gets his yardage but he leaves alot of yards out there with his lack of cutback ability, field vision and his inability to make a defender miss. MJD picks those yards up and allows Greene to move into a more suited role. That said....it ain't gonna happen because of the cap and the compensation needed to get him here.
That’s probably the poorest assessment of MJD Ive ever heard or seen... Do you understand the fact that the only things teams facing the Jags had to gameplan against last year was, well, MJD. The idea that Greene is a better RB than MJD (because that’s what you are saying since he would have a better YPC) is utterly terrible. Maybe due to the fact that MJD would be used as a workhorse on this team and Greene would be used at his best position- #2 back, and would face the defense when they are already worn down, then maybe I can understand them having a similar YPC, but something tells me thats not your reasoning.
