Slaw isn't making the rookie mistakes we were seeing last year. If his play has dropped at all its because DBricks play is off this year. Slaw has been seen leaving assignments to assist Furgie. I remember distincly in Ravens game and 2 other times. Slaw is playing slightly better than last year. However the whole OLine looks like shit cause of hunter and mulligans terrible play. So its not reading comprehesion. It shifting the focus from things that are less relevant to REAL ptoblems on the OL And Slaw has been more vocal this year. In the papers, radio interviewsd, and a shiny new twitter account. That's what the OP was referring too. Try reading up on the latest Jets news.
thanks fozzi i wasnt sure what he was referring to in the last part. i just wanted to get people back on the subject and get some good input like yours and micks.
After listening to his interview on SNY, we don't have to worry about and taunting penalties from trash talking....
Here's how I would put it: the left side of the Jets offensive line is playing worse than it did last year. There's been a lot of pressure coming from that side, a fact that has been somewhat disguised by the fact that more is coming off of right end than anywhere else. My view is that D'Brick is having a down year in pass protection at this point and a big part of that is that the gap between him and Slauson is weak and he's cheating inside to help cover it. Sanchez is going to get sacked 40 times this season at the rate the Jets are going and as bad as Hunter has been he hasn't been the 13 sacks worse than Woody bad that having him be the problem alone would suggest. I think the Jets have a hole at RT and a JAG at LG and carrying the two of them is hurting the entire line.
On pass blocking, pressure does reach to the QB through him more than through Ferguson - of course, not as much as from the right side, but that doesn't mean he is not the problem. He is playing very well for a 6th rounder, but he is slightly above average as an NFL player. On run blocking, I think I mentioned this earlier - Mangold has to seal the left side, because Slauson cannot, while Moore can hold his own sealing the right side. This doesn't mean Moore hasn't regressed, as he has actually. Maybe it's injury, but whatever the reason is, Moore cannot push the point of attack like he has in the past. So when Jets do need short yardage, Jets O tends to go to the left side, behind Mangold and Slauson (mostly Mangold.) Jets OL on the right side is a train wreck. Wayne Hunter is a human disaster - say, a rookie pancaked him with a pure bull rush, and that rookie kid was about good 20 lbs lighter than Hunter. Mulligan is a flag-drawing road pylon, so there goes the rush toward the right side. This is specifically the reason why Slauson's regress is not so much visible - since the disastrous display from the right side comes much quicker, with much greater magnitude.
I'm a big fan of Slauson. While Brick has had a down year by his standards, Slauson certainly has not been the reason our line has had trouble. The problem comes from missed assignments regardless of which side of the line the missed assignment comes on. Most of the time when we get beat on the line, it happens where Mulligan is lined up, or on the right side where Hunter plays. Unfortunately for Moore, he catches a little bit of flack because he is playing on the same side that Hunter does. If we address RT this off season along with adding a blocking TE or an extra OLineman who we can bring in for jumbo sets, we have the potential to go back to having a dominant line. Also, as someone noted earlier, the blocking scheme that was tough for defenses to figure out the past 2-3 years has now become predictable.
Slauson will never be an All Pro but he is playing well enough at a standard NFL level. I think he has progressed and has cut out a lot of last season's silly penalties. For the money we pay him, he is a steady reliable player.
Slauson apparently has beef with Suh's playing style.Im surprised he came out and said something about it.Props.
Yeah I hope Suh get a nice long suspension. When Haynesworth stepped on someone it was 4 games. Suh has already been warned.
Slauson has been very solid this year. Unfortunately the same can not be said for Hunter. Hopefully our new addition can help out at TE.
Slauson is mediocre and if we chose to do so we could easily upgrade the LG position. Don't think it is a priority right now though.
I'm not sure how well he's playing, Brick has been uncharacteristically terrible this year so I guess Slauson has had to pick up the slack on the left side. Tell you what, I'm gonna watch his play really closely today and use the TGG evaluation method of drawing a conclusion based on 1 game then get back to you guys.
