I'm not as down on Schaub as a lot of you folks, I think he's a decent QB.

Some food for thought though... there are some other QBs that will be Free Agents next offseason: Jay Cutler, Michael Vick...

Should Idzik go out and get one of these guys?

I think there's 2 ways to rebuild this team:
    1) blow it up, and try to find "your" franchise QB (taking rookie lumps along the way)
    2) retool a little bit and add the veteran QB to piece things together (look at Kansas City)

What if Idzik plays out 2013 with Geno Smith, the Jets finish in the lower half of the league. This team still has a lot of talent on the lines...

Wouldn't it make sense to use the $$ saved on saying goodbye to Sanchez and Holmes on a veteran like Cutler or Vick or Schaub - draft them a WR/TE in the first round, and we might be looking at a quick turn-around to the playoffs in 2014?

I guess I'm just tired of trying to be patient with these unpredictable young QBs...especially when we have lots of talent on the field.

I want a true jet as my qb. Shaub is not that.

The NFL right now, the teams with the most success have drafted their QBs barring Denver and NO. That doesn't sound as intimidating as it really means, because why would a team that likes their QB and he plays good, get rid of him. The two most recent examples were injuries, Manning and Brees.

Now we aren't getting a Denver situation next season because I don't see Manning, Brady, Brees, or Rodgers leaving their teams, but we might get a Brees one with a Cutler, Vick, or Schaub. Depending on how Geno looks, I don't mind acquiring one of those QBs for the short term. That's the thing, it can't be a long term contract, especially for Vick and his lack of ability to protect his body. The conversation should definitely be in play.

But right now, it's just too early to tell what we have in Geno. That's why I don't expect this conversation to really pick up until we get a full season from Geno to see how he adjusts and progresses or doesn't progress throughout a season.

Also, I think we all agree if for some reason Scaub ends up on the trading block, it would be a bad idea to trade draft picks for him. We have to remember it's a rebuilding year, not a win now year.

You're not getting a player like Cutler or Schaub on a short term contract.

You have to realize players of that caliber are not Jet fans, they aren't signing with the Jets for short money on a 1 year deal.

Reminds me of folks suggesting we sign Usain Bolt but "only for the NFL minimum" and give him a shot to prove himself. The guy makes $20 million a year, like he gives a crap about the Jets.

Next deal Cutler signs he'll be seeking $80-90 million multi-year deal. He's not coming to the Jets on a 1-2 year deal.

He's not a Jet fan. Nor is Schuab.

That Bolt talk was ridiculous. Track speed doesn't mean he can run a route or catch a football......

It was ridiculous because he's a multimillionaire track superstar and couldn't give a crap about the NFL, much less for short money

    Then we don't get them.

If Cutler or Schaub plays bad enough that their team is not resigning them, I don't see a 30 and 32 year coming off a bad season getting 80-90 million dollars on what I would assume is a 5-6 year contract.

I'm not saying a 1 year deal, but more in the 2-4 year range, which isn't out of the realm of possibility if they play badly. Chances are, they resign with their team because the Bears and Texans seem they will be in the WC hunt end of the season.

The only way they get 80-90 million is if they play really well. If they play really well, they aren't going to leave that team most likely.

Jeez has it gotten that bad for him. Schaub's passing rating was like 90.something last year and he's won a playoff game for them. He airs it out but doesn't do much against good defenses. Watched the Seattle game that showed me enough.
But why pick him up and start him if we've already made the decision to start Geno in seven or eight games. That's like starting a growing operation, you don't just take it down when the buds start popping. (I'm from Oregon, remember.)

Sanchez isnt near the worst if you count back ups. Schaub is clearly better than Sanchez though. Rough start to the season aside he is a better QB.

We have a QB that we have to allow to develop. I can't understand all of this QB talk. Geno is going to be the guy for the next few years. He is a rookie, and has made his share of rookie mistakes. Those are to be expected. My ope is that as he gets more games under his belt, those mistakes will lessen and he will develop into the type of QB this franchise hasn't had in a long time.

Shaub is certainly not the answer here. The answer is to allow Geno time to develop.

Even if you exclude Schaub from the QB discussion, there's no guarantee Geno's window of opportunity to become the Jets' quarterback is open past this season. If he doesn't show progress by the end of the season, the team has to consider all options, including available vets.
