This GM is making calculated moves with the sole purpose of finding low risk, high reward players that FIT OUR SYSTEM and FIT OUR BUDGET and help achieve our long term goals.
In an offensive system that favors multi skill weapons that can run and catch the ball out of the back field and block when necessary this is a significant upgrade at 2/3 the cost. WOW.
Bravo MR. MM. How refreshing is to have a GM that sees long term but also painfully understands the coaching philosophy and near term needs.
As I see it, we now seem to select players both in free agency and the draft that are almost ready made to fit our system and our long term needs , not prospects or great one dimensional athletes and then figure out what to do with them.
While the jury is still out on MM, so far the preponderance of evidence is very positive IMHO.
I have never felt better entering the draft that I do with Mac at the helm.

Welcome aboard Forte. I asked myself how close Marshall and him were in Chicago, and sure enough judging by Brandon's Instagram post, I think he's a big fan of the move.

Ideally I'd like Forte, Powell and a drafted RB heading into 2016. We don't need Ridley or Stacy back.

What are you talking about? I've seen no one bitching about this signing.

I've expressed some concerns, which should be normal on the part of any rational, experienced fan when signing a 31 year-old RB who's had as many carries as Forte has. The only negative thing I said about the signing was
The reasons I said that are as follows. One, both Bowles and Mac said they wanted to improve team speed and get younger. If we lose Powell, which we could either because of cap space or because Forte and Powell are similar style players, we not only will not have gotten any younger, we will have gotten older at the RB position, and I doubt if we will have gotten any faster, either. Two, I thought Powell would be cheaper, the Jets don't have much cap space, and I think it more important that they address the OL in FA. Three, any knowledgeable fan knows that on average, RBs only have 3 year careers, and by 30 those have lasted longer can go downhill quickly, often overnight. Four, you seemed blissfully unaware of his drop in production last year. Five, I was just being consistent. I was against signing him earlier when we were discussing possible FA RBs the Jets could sign. You can look it up.

Nowhere have I said that Mac was stupid, that this was a bad signing, or been bitching. Believe me, when I bitch about something, EVERYONE knows it.

Forte's been a great RB. I truly hope he will be all that you and others think he will be, because that's what's best for the Jets.

I was hoping for this since 2015 ended. I honestly think Forte is an upgrade over Ivory. He'll be a bigger asset in the passing game. I haven't seen the contract details yet, but I'm sure he's cheaper as well.

Forte is only 30yo, a spy young chicken. Not an old decrepit 31yo.

Re Forte vs. Powell: Forte is a proven commodity and Powell isn't.

No matter how it pans out

    Today

    This day

Based on the facts, based on needs, based on talent, based on player strengths - this is a very good move

Running backs are really not what they used to be. Give me a low risk high reward guy every year and I'm fine, I don't need a 7 year RB. 2-3 years per back is fine.

Note- I'm only referring to RB

I still want to see all the contract details, but this signing puts us in a much better position going forward. His skills catching passes out of the backfield are legendary, and that will be a huge safety valve for whoever ends up playing QB (hopefully Fitz). If Fitz somehow gets away and we end up with Geno or Petty starting, I'll be much more comfortable knowing that Forte will be there for screens and dump offs. My only concern is, obviously, his health, now that he is on the wrong side of 30.

Sorry no more Ohio St. rejects. We have met our quota. Nick can't balance out against all the garbage we have got from there.

You can forget about Henry unless we can't re-sign Powell. RB is the easiest position for a rookie to start and play well. If the Jets were planning on taking a RB high, they would be counting on him starting and playing a lot of snaps. With Forte alone, that won't happen. If we're able to keep Powell too, it sure won't happen.

My ideal plan is to resign Powell, and sign Alfred Morris as the power back.

Forte, Morris and Powell would be a very good trio.

Like this move a lot, cheap, great blocker, big 6'2", fast 4.46, crafty, great hands catching out of the back field, nothing not to like here....better than Ivory...

Tell them Nick Mangold, James Laurinaitis, Carlos Hyde, Ryan Shazier and Michael Bennett say what's up.

Matt Fote and Chris Ivory had the exact same number of total overall yards 1287 last year between running and catching passes. So for those people who think he is here to replace Powell are out of there minds

Brilliant move by Macc. Going for GM of the year two years running

    Kudos to our GM who will not yield to the market frenzy surrounding these overpriced players (BOstweiler played 7 games and gets 72 million from Houston ?? LMAO}

No the whole NFL may be crazy but Mac gets value on the cheap with Forte plus leverage in negotiating with Powell (he doesn't have that with Fitz so he let Ryan walk..for now)

I hope this strategy works because all we need is our QB and we are set on Offense

Not sure if it has been posted already but Forte's financials are: 3 years, $12 million, $8 million guaranteed. $4 million in escalators. Source: Manish Mehta (bleh), Twitter
