Hey, don't get mad at me just because I'm not crying over the fact that we are improving the depth of the LB position.

i still have my reserves about vilma in the 3-4, i think he'll still be okay, but I think he'll be a lot worse off than if he was in the 4-3...maybe they'll move him to OLB...

Tedy Bruschi is 6 foot one inches tall and weighs 247 pounds.

While Jonathan Vilma is 6 foot one inches tall as well, but only weighs 230 pounds. I still think Vilma can gain weight and still be effective as a inside MLB in the 3-4...Just gain like 5-10 pounds and he will be fine. Just a tad undersized. Nothing to worry about.

Im pretty sure they are both a little exaggerated. Vilma's more like 6' 225lbs, and Bruschi is probably 6' 240lbs.

I just think unless we get a great NT (yeah because those are so easy to find) there will be a ton of times Vilma's going to get eaten up alive inside because his one weakness (even back in college) was always shedding interior blocks (he tries, he just was never great at it nor had the mass/strength), I mean not that it's easy or commonplace for someone to do it easily or a lot, I just think Vilma struggles more than the average MLB, so going into the 3-4 as an ILB...I have a few reservations

MLB in the 4-3 and ILB in the 3-4 are completely different

Kitna or Ashworth/Hopkins will be next. I think they're holding off on Ramsey maybe because they're hammering something out with Kitna?

I suppose. I still think if he adds some weight he should be fine. Mangini will find ways to keep him free to make plays.

I think its silly to think that 5 or 10 pounds will make any of a difference. I can gain 10 pounds in a week no problem. Hell, I weighed 220 Saturday night when I weighed myself, then 212 in the morning. IMO its dosent really make a difference until you hit 20 or so pounds

I don't think it is something to be concerned about either, but he certainly has room to grow/gain weight which could help him shed blocks.

Also I have a hard time believing you lost 8 pounds in the middle of the night...Did you drink an entire bottle of laxitives?

I'm not going to deny that I have some questions about how Vilma fits in a 3-4. however I think it is important to remember that not all 3-4's are the same. Maybe its just me, but it seems like Bruschi played in space a lot more than your typical LB due to his extraordinary ability to make big plays in pass defense. Dallas also used a different version of a 3-4 defense due to the size (or lack thereof) of Dat Ngyun.

Not joking. 8 pounds Ive ever had my weight fluctuate, but its true. But to be fair, I shouldve told you that I weighed myself at night, after eating 10 plates at a Chinese buffet. Still, its not that hard to gain weight...might not necessarily be muscle, but I can gain a or lose a good few pounds a day of water weight. Thats why I said a few pounds dont matter...an athlete's weight fluctuates all the time. Its only when you get to the 20s that it makes a difference

That's true...Dat had two really good seasons in 2003 and in 2004 under Bill Parcells and the 3-4. I am positive Mangini will find ways to keep Vilma making plays.

    Here's a better one...Donnie Edwards 6'2 227. A 3-4 defense doesn't seem to affect him now does it?

I have one for you.... Zach Thomas at 5'11" and 228 was too small to be a MLB in a 4-3.... all the way to the pro bowl. Then, they said he was too small to shed tackles in Saban's new 3-4 as an ILB.... all the way to the pro bowl.

Why is it hard to find players who will not take "No" for an answer. Chrebet was one player we had who always displayed that hard-to-fiind attitude.

Great example as well. I think it is safe to say Vilma should be fine in any scheme he plays in...

Isn't great that worrying about Vilma is something we probably do not have to do?

I think he has the ability to adapt and will. I also think that the season we just had will make him stronger than ever, and even more determined.

Well! Mystery solved! Chinese food disintegrates in an hour, leaving you hungry for more.

I think we're going to be extremely conservative in Free Agency this year, if we sign one or two guys whose name you don't have to look up on NFL.com I'll be impressed.

Just noticed that both Kimo Von Oelhoffen and Brett Keisel are FAs. Both of them played DE for the Steelers last year. So who would you rather have? Keisel is alot younger and has alot of upside, and did well filling in for Oelhoffen...I hope we're at least looking into him
