I am sure if he knee is bothering him, he wont risk it. If his knee feels good and doctors clear him, then I dont see any reason why not to let him play.
C-Mart's got heart, if he comes back, please cut barlow. As a matter of fact, cut him anyway, and blaylock too.
Future still unclear for RBs Holmes, Martin By Adam Schefter www.NFL.com Adam Schefter's "Around the League" reports and commentaries can be seen regularly on NFL Total Access. (Oct. 11, 2006) -- Over the years, Jets running back Curtis Martin and Chiefs running back Priest Holmes had almost identical approaches to the game -- study hard, train harder and be two of the hardest backs in the game to bring down. But now, the two backs are taking entirely different approaches, which yields some insight into their futures in football. Each is on the Physically Unable to Perform List (PUP) with a potentially career-ending injury. Each is eligible to come off it and resume practicing with his team on Monday, Oct. 16. Each can be placed on his team's active roster any time until the 12th week of the season. But the 33-year-old Martin looks like he's giving himself a chance to return while the 33-year-old Holmes seems like he's not. Martin has reported to the Jets' training facility every day, attended meetings, kept up his conditioning, stayed in his playbook, and done everything he could to get back on the field. There are questions within the Jets organization about whether Martin will be able to make it back from the bone-on-bone condition in his right knee. It doesn't mean he will, but Martin cannot be ruled out. Priest Holmes has not hinted on a return, which means he may likely call it quits. "It's not something we're setting any timetable on," Jets head coach Eric Mangini said. "It's more of going through the process, seeing how it feels, getting into more football-specific activities. It could be as early as (next week) or it could be right down to the wire. The key thing for us to make sure that when it does happen, it's the best decision, it's the right time and he's completely ready." Holmes, meanwhile, has not been spotted at the Chiefs training facility since last winter. He has not attended meetings, not spoken once with Chiefs head coach Herman Edwards, not practiced or played in a game since last October, when he was injured against San Diego. Those around the Chiefs would consider it a shock if Holmes were to return to football this season -- or ever. He has not received medical clearance to do so from any doctor who has examined his neck. Of course, Holmes never can fully be counted out, not until he makes his retirement official, whenever that occurs. But there has been absolutely no buzz about his return within the Chiefs organization. So in regards to two perennial Pro Bowl running backs, it now looks like Martin has an outside shot, and Holmes has very little of one.
My concern is this. If he returns, you know we all will be holding our breath everytime he carries the ball. Plus, God forbid, if he re-injures his knee and officially ends his career, i cant even imagine the regret i will have. He has nothing else to prove. He's on the all-time rushing list. He's a god among all of us Jet fans. I respect his passion to play through adversity, but he's risking permanent damage to his leg. Its his decision but risks just scares me.
