You have absolutely no basis for what you're saying. And now Marshall's comments have rendered the posts of you and the dozens of others speculating on how this fight happened, irrelevant
But that is the point, isn't it? IK is not a Jet anymore. for the time being, Smith is. He and his lack of maturity remain an issue. IK is not an issue.
Yeah- this is 1000% different than what Anthony Becht was talking about--anyone who looks at those two players and the situations they found themselves in is being intentionally obtuse. http://www.anthonybechtfootballcamp.com/ Anthony Becht's football camp is going on 10 years, he's now in multiple locations for multiple dates and he's served 1000s of kids over the years. He's become a professional at these types of camps. His camps sell out so much that he has a couple going on each year--he's learned the game and probably some hard lessons. Becht was in the league 5 years already before he started his own camp and he likely helped out other players in their camps before he got started on his own. He has dozens of players every year. He's got some big headliners and lots of second tier players. Missing out on a headliner at this point isn't that big of a deal a deal for him. But if he lost his first headliner at his one and only camp in his home town--he might have been a bit more pissed off about it. Of course he buys trip insurance now--he's probably had quite a few players cancel on him over the years. Did he do that his first or second camp? Did he learn from others mistakes? This was IKs second ever camp--it's a tiny little one day event in his sleepy home town at his High School for 5th to 8th graders and costs $25. Not big business like Becht's annual camps. Besides Geno--his other players were Dashaun Phillips, Greg Nwoko, Zaviar Gooden, Kerry Hyder and Justin Ellis. Geno was clearly the headliner--clearly the draw and reports were his image was plastered on the fliers. It wasn't the $600, it was being bailed on by someone that he felt made a commitment to him. And IK was held accountable and was immediately released. But Anthony Becht's football camp and his business and IK's tiny one day football clinic are apples and oranges. Feel free to continue to disagree. _
I really don't see any purpose in these threads..as Cimini referred to him in today's article, "the Jets former starter"...that's what he is and it's now Fitzpatrick and/or somebody else's job to lose so why even discuss him?
Because we heard nothing about geno having issues until a person with prior history of violence punches him, and now he is the most villified person in the locker room? Any player who defends him should know their place and not speak? Come on man, the over reaction, while not surprising is laughable.
Sure. Let's just go ad hominem now that a player has gone on record, giving his name and said Geno did not put his finger in Ik's face and did nothing to warrant the punch. Oh and the player is basing it on being an eye witness to the altercation. These are actual FACTS. And they render all the rampant, unsubstantiated speculation of the past week, moot.
How do you step in and stop the first and only punch when nobody is expecting there to be a punch? How does that work exactly? I'm sure there are verbal arguments in the locker every day. Nobody expects them to result in a punch to the jaw.
There have been a number of other incidents involving Smith that raise questions about his maturity. You choose to forget or ignore them, but since I think he sucks as a player, I am fine with remembering them and adding them to the list. I can't understand people like you who bend over backwards to defend him. I really can't.
Stokes nails it again. Geno started this whole thing by being a no-show and leaving IK high and dry. Not even a phone call. The tension between Geno and IK went on for weeks. Geno had plenty of time to make it right and not let it brew. But he didn't. This is how players like Revis who weren't even there can say they were both at fault. Geno had AMPLE opportunity to swallow a humble pill, apologize, and make it right. He didn't. Now he's home impersonating Melvin and the Jets are down an up-and-coming pass rusher. The only person happy about all this Calvin Pace. Heck, he may demand a raise.
I suppose the HC, Revis and the others are lying. Believe what U want that's what this board is all about. What U see as facts are what U believe. He says this others say that. The facts will come out eventually and than we will see. And did I miss something? He said he was an eye witness? Is there a link? Or is this speculation?
Last time I checked, punching somebody in the face was assault. Smith may not have handled this well, but it does not appear he did anything to deserve a broken jaw and having his career put in jeopardy. IK makes hundreds of thousands of dollars. Maybe he should have just written off the $600 and moved on with his life?
More fun for Geno. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/myers-geno-smith-bust-jets-article-1.2329020 The guy just keeps on giving..
blind loyalty is not rational thinking. Here's what I don't get about the Smith Fans. Two bad years so far, but Smith Fans want to include "flashes" of quality play in talking about his upside. Okay, but no one OWES him anything, so he has to earn it going forward, not based on past accomplishments. And this is the Qb in the NFL, meaning he's got to lead the offense, really by example the whole team. It's a team game, right? Even the Qb can't do it all himself. Smith has to be a leader to succeed. Right? So, how has Smith done as a leader? We can go back to missing team meetings to see a movie. And of course he's not leading by winning. Off the field incidents like cursing fans. Do events like that inspire confidence in his teammates that this guy can be a leader? Is this the kind of guy that I want to follow? Fast forward to the IK thing. It was two weeks since Smith didn't show for his camp. And did not pay him. Two weeks went by. There's NO QUESTION Smith owed IK the money. Sure Smith may have had his excuse for not showing. But for not calling? For not paying the money out of pocket IK was missing? How about the ill effects on IK's camp beyond that? Smith gave IK HIS WORD that he would show. and he didn't show. and he didn't call. and he didn't pay the money. IK also is a player trying to make the team who apparently was known to be tight with his money. So, you stiff a guy, a young guy trying to make the team whose not inclined to be disrespected in that environment. You let two weeks go by without paying him, without apologizing to him. And certainly without even talking about doing something to make it up to IK, like how about making a charitable contributino to his camp? You know. What a leader who is a stand up person would do. Instead of that you let it get to the point it did, with reports Smith stuck his finger in IK's face. Even if that is not true, why the wait? Was Smith planning on not paying IK at all? Now say that you are another player in that locker room. Is Smith now the kind of guy who shows he cares about other players on the team? Is he showing team leadership? No. So how does this not bother Smith Fans? Are they that clueless about how men get along, and do not get along? Do THEY act like Smith did in their personal lives? And if the answer is no, then why is it okay for Smith to be like that? I don't get Smith Fans.
Your wrong I have a basis to make the statement on. I am doing the same thing the Geno lovers are doing . Ignoring other stories. Right now the flavor of the month is to say Marshall saw all, but where was he last week? why didn't he come out last week when his point might have seemed more relevant? Right now it seems contrived and he is making statements to covr for Geno. What I would like to know how come the Geno lovers stay off the fact that everyone thinks IK is at fault and Geno's lack of maturity, decision making and leadership skills are in question here. This is a typical argument of from a Geno supporter---he did nothing wrong, he was right he doesn't have to pay, his friend died, look Marshall said he did not do anything wrong.. This is not the argument the argument is People think Geno's choice of standing and arguing and not settling this in a mature manner one team leader might help caused this. If he paid IK back whether he was right or wrong guess what this is not a story, what is a story and poepl in the locker would gain respect was Geno did not have to pay back IK but did what a nice guy. Instead geno chose to argue with a 250lb man with anger issues and you act surprised when he challenged him whether he pointed his finger or not he got popped in the jaw? I would ask everyone of the opinion that Geno did nothing wrong were you ever in a locker room/military (what branch) where tempers run high and are issues are usually settled by one person using force either will or physical over someone else. I am thinking allot you have not been , and you also got trophies for last place. This is a life lesson hopefully Geno letting him know he is not the prima donna he thinks he is and he needs to get his head together. I think he needs to sit for a yr and try to win back the locker room. Face it if he was a team leader people would have been fighting to protect him before the fight or even afterwards the minute it happened.
Either is blind hatred. There have been more than enough posts pro geno that have stated he probably could have handled things better. But to act like he deserved it is ridiculous. To shoot down players takes vs unnamed sources is as well. we have no idea what the conversations were like between ik and geno leading up to last week. So until we do the only thing we know is geno was respected enough to be invited to his camp. And ik punched geno after not showing. Everything else is speculation.
