As others have noted, Maine's game 161 performance last year was just as important, but he only pitched 7 2/3 and the game was 8-0 after three innings. I mentioned a few of the other games that were in bigger spots from the point of view of the standings, but they weren't nearly this tight either. The most important great game ever pitched by a Mets pitcher was undoubtedly Seaver's almost-perfect game against the Cubs in 1969 - it established for the first time credibility for the franchise that the team then carried through the season and the next few years - but even that was an easy win. I am hard-pressed to remember another game for a Mets pitcher that combined a complete game, a tight score, and incredibly important circumstances other than Seaver's 2-1 10-inning win in game 4 of the 1969 World Series.

Yeah, I don't know that there is another such game like this one.

Hopefully, the Mets make this really count by getting into the damn playoffs.

I think the thing that sticks with me most about Maine's game was how he had been completely out of gas coming down the stretch, between the innings increase and the nagging hip injury. He came out on all adrenaline and totally overpowered them for 8 innings.

My age probably has something to do with it, too.

For me that was the greatest Met pitcher performance I have ever seen

eery resemblece, maine great game in game 161 we win, after losing game 160.

phillies lose game 161, [brewers losing now]

and we played the marlins last season at home for game 160,161, and,162.

lets hope and pray, game 162 doesnt have the same outcome

Even Bad Ollie isn't as bad as Glavine was that last game.

Well, I think the starter should be able to get at least two guys out.

I have to go on a date now, but don't know if I can concentrate properly knowing the Cubs-Brewers game is going on and it's important and stuff.

2 runs today, 1 yesterday. I just have to believe that they will have one good game with the season on the line.
