I hope it is. my hatred for the players on this team is greater than my love for the abstract concept of the Mets as a team beyond the players that make it up. there isn't a single one of them I want to see win after the misery I allowed them to put me through this season. fuck them all.
my god omar better get some serious heat for this (and certainly no extension). what is happening to this team is a complete disgrace
I got no problem with Manuel getting hired on. He's done a great job with the bullshit talent in the BP he's been handed. This meltdown by the Mets' bullpen is wholly owned by Omar and he's the one that should be held accountable for this. If Wilpon give Minaya a extension, I'm done with this team. I've had enough of bad management and bad ownership. If I have to choose one to keep, I'll root for the Jets instead of the Mets.
it's not just the bullpen, the lineup he built is a freaking joke as well. sure they've scored a lot of runs, but not in a lot of pressure situations and I believe most of their runs were scored early in games.
I have a hard time blaming Minaya, I don't know what more he could do really. It's not his fault Wagner got hurt, and nobody expected the pen to be this bad--Heilman, Sanchez, and Feliciano were all very good relievers before this year, and putting them with Wagner, the bullpen was solid on paper coming into this season. It's not his fault they all just became awful at once. He should have never given Castillo 4 years, and should have a had a backup plan for Alou, but other than that, the team he put on the field this year should have been good enough to win a World Series; it was the players that didn't perform.
That's apologist crap. It's not like the bullpen problems started when Wagner went down, they were bad all year and nothing was done to address it. Especially with the bullpen and the bench you can't just say "Well, they were good last year let me pencil them in for the same this year!" which is what Omar has been doing since 2006.
Yep, this is true. I mean Mike Wise? Really? What's a shame is how obvious this was: If the Mets have an average bullpen, you could make the case that, with the resurgence of Carlos Delgado and the emergence of Daniel Murphy making the offence solid and Johan leading a pretty good staff, the Mets would be deep threats this year. Instead, we had one of the worst bullpens in recent memory. I miss that '06 pen, I really do.
Mets season over today and Jets season over on Sunday and everything is right in my sports world again.
Everything Omar's done since '06 with the pen has been wrong: -He let Bradford go and brought in Blowenweis to replace him -He trusted Mota off the juice would be as good as Mota on the juice and re-signed him -He let Darren Oliver go and the Mets haven't had a true long man since -He let guys like Matt Lindstrom and Heath Bell go for nothing -He failed to rectify any of these mistakes in the offseason last year when the pen was bad enough in September '07 where it should have warranted wholesale changes Heilman I'll give you but Sanchez? The guy hadn't pitched in a year and a half after a ton of injuries. He couldn't be expected to be anywhere near what he was. And Feliciano is a situational reliever only as is most of the Met pen (i.e. lefties can only get lefties out and vice-versa).
Did you even watch last year? Our bullpen was horrible last year and it was horrible this year. Minaya should be blasted for this. As 3rd said numerous times this year even before Wagner got hurt this bullpen was full of below average specialists. I said Heilman will stink the 1st game of the year and he has done nothing to prove me wrong. Counting on Alou with no backup plan was an horrible mistake that has left us with holes in the lineup all year when the corner outfield spots should be big producers. I don't even want to know what he was smoking to resign Castillo for that long when we knew that Castillo had no knees. Lets not even get to adding Schneider for "defense" when we knew that our offense will have problems scoring. That too was clear as day last year. We had no backup to Pedro and El Duque and it has costed us big time at this point of the season when even though we have THREE starters very close if not already over 200 innings pitched and still have our bullpen overworked. We could have easily signed Kyle Lohse and would have addressed this problem. And that is just touching the surface of problems that Minaya has ignored.
it aint over yet, a win today followed by a brewers lost today, and were right back in it, ya gotta believe, i think im just trying to stay positive
Obvious must win game but our lack of hits with palyers in scoring positions is dreadful and comes down to one thing lack of spine and determination. Go Mets its live in the uk so I can really share the pain tody!
I'd really like to see Murphy get a hit here, since I don't have much faith in the bottom of the order.
