Maybe Mo wants to play for $8M/yr but the Jets are determined to pay him at least $12M but he ain't having it. That's what I think
Mo is a proven commodity in the NFL. I do however think it's in the best interests of the team to see how he plays this year in the new scheme and to see how Williams develops. It just gives the Jets the most flexibility. There is the flip side as well. If Mo blows it up this year, the FO will have 2 choices then (pay the man more than they would have this off season or franchise). If Williams is every bit as good as the scouts say he is, it's gives the FO the flexibility to seek a trade for Mo too. Not signing Mo this offseason really is the best scenario for the team as it gives them options. Should be interesting
Any contract would most probably be an extension with his salary remaining the same this year and him getting probably $15M or so signing bonus. If it is a 6 year $75M contract then the extra cap hit would be $2.5M from the prorated signing bonus, which would still leave the team another $3M on the cap for any late signing. Basically just take the signing bonus and divide by contract length, that is the only extra cap hit this year if they extend him.
In what world does this begin to make sense? Why would Mo ask for 8 the jets offer 12 and mo say no. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mo getting a new contract comes down to 3 players...Mo, Williams, and Geno. If Geno and Williams play well this year, Mo will probably be gone. If Geno plays bad and Williams plays well, I can see them using Mo to trade for a QB or draft spot to get a QB. If Geno and Williams both play bad, I'm not sure what they'll do. You'll want to keep Mo at that point, but you still need a QB and he definitely has the best value to trade with. If Richardson screws up again though, maybe they'll put the franchise tag on Mo, keep Williams, and trade Richardson and Geno. I think there is a bigger chance that Mo doesn't get resigned than there is of him signing again. But it will probably come down to how other players perform instead of how he performs.
Absent of any, "Hear me out..." following a post so clearly insane - it's usually pretty clear to figure things out. Humor, of the intentional variety, is the thing that I like best about this site...
Well, Mo is going to walk away from the Jets w/out us getting major compensation. I can already see it happening.
The sweet spot for trading Mo is probably the bye week. That's when the Jets have the most info about Leonard Williams, Sheldon Richardson is returning from his suspension and some other would-be contender out there is coming to grips with what their run defense is like minus the guy who went down for the season in camp or early on. There are still 12 games left in the season at that point, enough for Mo to make a real impact somewhere. That's when the Jets can squeeze somebody for a few picks including their 1st next year.
