We should have waited, the only other team that needed WR was Detroit. They took Tate, the Panthers couldnt make a move because of the Cap. We could have just waited and had gotten Nicks AND Decker for the price we paid Decker. It might have been slightly more but I bet we could have had both for 8 million, rather Decker who was like what 6.5ish?
Nah dude, they have knee braces like the ones in 'The Dark Knight Rises'. They don't restrict your speed AT ALL.
we signed a good deal with him for multi years, you would rather sign a lower cost deal for 1 year then have to go through this again next year? The Colts wanted Decker by the way, couldn't get him so they got Nicks. we are not going to be spending big on a WR again. you don't win putting that much money into that position.
I understand what your saying, but do you realize how risky it would be to let him sit there? Maybe we overpaid a little bit, you might be right, but I think it's a risk we kind of had to take. Could Idzik have gotten him for less? Maybe. But if he tried to and let him slip away, we'd be in a bad place.
Fail to see how it was an overpayment at all. It was a very fair contract. Everybody thought he'd get like 10 mil or so. +1 John Idzik
Well we better draft a stud in the 2nd round then because our WR corps as is will not cut it if we want to get to the super bowl.
Stop feeding the troll folks. It couldn't be any more obvious that he's trolling. Don't give him the attention he's seeking.
First off Idzik didn't overpay for Decker, and seond even if the Jets did overpay Decker, they can easily cut him before the 2016 2017 season. You're acting as if this is some long term deal we are locked in for 4 to 5 seasons, it's essentially a TWO year deal.
Honestly, his argument is a bit flawed, especially when he brought up Nicks, but there are some things to think about. I was and am happy with the Decker signing, however, as Junc brought up in response to me, we really won't be able to sign another top tier WR. I honestly have limited knowledge in regards to cap figures and salaries, etc. So I am trusting here that junc is right, and it does seem like a sound point. With all this being said, it seems that unless we draft a stud WR in the later rounds, we are no longer going to be able to afford a true #1 receiver. The consensus among most all of us is that Decker is not a true #1. So if we're using the same principles Idzik applied to the CB situation, why wouldn't he have waited til next year to find that true #1 instead? Because, if I am not mistaken, next years WR free agency pool is pretty deep. Don't get me wrong, I would have loathed to see the same WR situation as last year, but I am starting to wonder, is this current group the WR corps that we are going to be stuck with for some time now? Is Decker going to remain our defacto #1 WR because we no longer have room for a true #1 considering we'd also still have to sign Kerley? I appreciate thoughts on this.
What makes you think a true number one wr will hit the open market? When is the last time a true number one receiver in his prime hit the market? In my opinion there are only five true number one wide receivers in the league, and this list consits of Calvin Johnson, Brandon Marshall, AJ Green, Andre Johnson, and Dez Bryant. All of these players I mentioned are already locked up, or will be signing an extension this season. And while we're at it why is everyone obeseed with number "true number one receivers"?Last time I checked the defending superbowl champions had a receving core of Golden Tate, Percy Harvin, Doug Baldwin, Jermaine Kearse, and Zach Miller. I don't see any number one wide receivers there. I'd love to have a top tier WR, but the fact of the matter is that it's not a necessity. It's a luxury that, unfortunately, only a handful of teams are able to enjoy.
Good points. I might have added Josh Gordon but suspended players don't do any good. Andre Johnson might be a little past the prime of being a #1 at this point but I get your point. Where would Julio Jones and Roddy White fall on the list though? Regardless your right, #1 receivers are a rare commodity. I guess we'll have to let the recieving corps play out and then assess, but I would really like to hit the jackpot next year in the 2nd or 3rd round on a deep vertical threat that can stretch the field. Sound familiar? Let's get it right this time though. No more "projects."
