Incorrect. Jets are tied for 14th in sack totals, which is average. They give up that many sacks as it is because MS has poor presence in the pocket, holds onto the ball too long, and is not good at eluding pass rushers. Meanwhile the Jets are 7th in points per game. No doubt you as a Sanchez Fan want to give all that credit to Sanchez. I give a teensy bit to the OL. The ypc number is as low as it is for a number of reasons, which include Sanchez being not much of a threat as a Qb, Greene's lack of production until more recently, and LT's lack of rushing attempts and drop off in production. Every team that plays the Jets first tries to take away their running game because they know Sanchez will not be passing for lots of yardage no matter what. Overall, your assertion that the OL is below average is merely the latest example of a Sanchez Fan pointing the finger everywhere else but at #6 in explaining the Jets' lack of production.
Tied for 14th in sacks allowed means 17 teams have allowed fewer, ergo the Jets are below average. And if you think Sanchez "poor pocket presence" is responsible for the sacks you're obviously not watching the games very closely. Many of the sacks have been straight line to the QB and down variety and he's drawn plaudits for his ability to move in the pocket on several occasions this season. And how do you explain the 3.7 yards per carry that the Jet's backs are getting this season? When Sanchez was passing for 300+ yards as he did several times early in the season the Jet's backs were doing even more poorly. It's only since the Jets have been trying to run the ball as a main thrust of the offense that the attack has moved up to below average.
Can anybody confirm this was said ? It's so far out of left-field -- hell, it's not even within 10 miles of the ballpark -- that I can't believe someone would even MAKE IT UP because it's not even credible. You might just as well say "...sources say if Rex Ryan is fired as NYJ HC that Bill Belichick would look to hire him as his DC." Sanchez isn't going anywhere for another 3 years at least, and that assumes he flops the next 2 which I doubt.
Everyone says that Sanchez has to step up.....but I ask, LIKE WHO ??? All the other young QB's taken have taken steps back or had mixed success. Freeman, McCoy, Bradford......even Cam has cooled in recent weeks (league catching up ??) and Stafford has Calvin J. I don't see any QB in the last 3 years who has done so spectacularly that you can say Sanchez needs to follow like him. And some of the rookie QB's -- Lockner, Christian (MN), Gabbert -- have been abysmal, albeit with poor teams. Still, they have shown you very little.

When quoting points per game it's always best to use just the offensive / defensive points irrespective of of the other units contributions for observation. Using this website (a great resource assuming it's accurate) the Jets offense is actually ~12th in the league in putting points on the board: http://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/offensive-points-per-game Looking at the Jets Oline stats and watching them in person vs. other games I'd rate them as average overall or slightly below. Also, I think that Sanchez is about average at avoiding the rush. His athleticism is better than average even if his pocket awareness is probably less so vs. other, more seasoned, QB's. You can quibble about his "poise in the pocket", but I don't know how you can claim that Sanchez can't elude pass rushers. I don't really think he holds onto the ball too long. Very rarely do I remember seeing Sanchez holding onto the ball for an inordinate amount of time instead of throwing it away. In fact, the offenses penchant for throwing short passes (perhaps before the play has developed) should help the sacked against numbers. Also, with regards to the OL in the running game, the average for the other Jets RB's besides Greene is asitting at < 3.1 YPC. That's pretty bad even if the defense is keying on the run (as you point out). The only thing saving them is Greene (who I really don't think is running as hard as he has in the past) who is averaging 4.2 YPC. Also, the last two years the Jets averaged about 4.4 ypc with many more attempts per game with the same QB (who I assume the Jet's opponents had just as little fear of in 2009 and 2010) so I don't think that you can use that as a total excuse. Now it's always hard to just look at YPC and say it's the OL's fault vs. the RB's fault, but the fact is that the OL / RB combo is just not getting it done.
Today we will find out a lot. If Sanchez has a big game, he will add fuel to the Sanchez love of some, and convert some to Sanchez fans that doubt him. If only for a week or two. However, if he plays like shit, as he has in a whole this season, NYC will crucify him in this Rivalry game. It will not matter what the rest of the team does in this game. Human Nature is going to put the blame on the focal point of a team. That is Sanchize! I see the OL playing well this game, and the run game being average to above average though. We will see.
