My biggest knock on Sanchez is how young he is coupled with the system he is in and the constant rotation of WR's in his short pro career.
True, I would like to see him with the same group of receivers for once. Good thing is he'll have an offseason with Holmes/Kerley for sure. Maybe even Burress even though I'd like to see a new #1 Receiver come in because burress is a shade of his old self IMO.
That sounds so absurd I can't even believe ESPN would report that. Two AFC Game appearances, 94 QB Rating in the playoffs, and his best offensive year, and we'd dump Sanchez if we go 9-7 and miss the playoffs? Tannenbaum would be run out of town if he did that.
Perhaps you were not thinking it or intending it to come across that way, but when you talk about the line's inconsistency in terms of how well or badly Sanchez has been playing, the implication is that he is suffering due to a below average level of performance by the OL. Inconsistency can only have relevance if it is to a degree that is noteworthy, significant enough to make a difference compared to other OL's. Your garden variety kind of thing where a good team or unit on a team can now and then have a bad play is not only something all teams face and have. It also does not have any relevance when compared to other teams, since that is true of every team, up to a point. I agree the OL has had more problems at different points of the season than others. That was particularly true when Mangold got hurt. But I also think over the course of the season the OL's performance has not been below average. In fact I think they are still above average, albeit not as much as in some recent years. In other words, Sanchez probably was hampered more than most NFL Qb's in a couple of games by a below average OL performance. But only in a couple. Season long issues or situations when compared to other NFL Qb's cannot, I think, be blamed on the OL.
At this point we all need to calm down about Sanchez and give him another two years before we make any decisions. The franchises that have success in this league are ones that have continutiy and do not make rash decisions. Theres a reason why teams like the browns, the chiefs, the Jets and many others have a new coach every 2-3 years and thats because they overreact and never let anyone build a team. By doing that from day one you are putting any new coach at a disadvantage because when making decisions he needs to do whats best for the team and it's future but when you have to worry that one or two bad seasons will get you fired you start making decisions that aren't best for the team. The same goes for your Quarterback. Let him develop. If he starts feeling he has to put up 4000 yards and 35 TD's otherwise we will be drafting a QB next year then guess what? He is going to try and force things, try to do too much and never develop into all he can be. Finally we have a coach in Rex who is confident enough and seems to be on the same page as far as the direction to take this team as the owner and GM so he doesn't need to worry that one 6-10 year and he's a goner. We also have a Quarterback who has proven he can win and play at a high level deep into January very early in his career. Even if they don't get us the Super Bowl win (which I do think we will eventually get and thats only the second time in my lifetime (Parcells years) I can say that) at the very least it will show we have a stable organization with an owner and GM that provide the foundation a coach needs to be successful. Stabilty is the key and will enable the Jets to be a more attractive landing spot for future coaches and players . If your organization is disfunctional in the front office it will be disfunctional on the feild as well. I want to see these guys here together for a long time and give them every chance they can to succeed.
oooooooooooooooooooooooooh the pain. I'm pretty good at analyzing and picking out good vs Bad QB's... Damn good. Unfortunately.
just to clarify my previous post... I was very unhappy particularly earlier in the season that the FO did not shore up the OL after Turner got hurt. I still am. And the OL definitely was playing much worse then than it did last year, and in recent years. But it is also true it has improved. The Eagles game was subpar, but the Eagles have been sacking alot of opposing Qb's. It happens. But overall the OL has been playing better. And while as I said it has not been up to the level of past years, it is still no worse than an average unit compared to the rest of the league. i would say better than average.
Well, funny thing... the teams that have success have also done a remarkable job analyzing Quarterback talent and many of them even stockpiled or wound up with QB talent to trade and get a kings ransom in return... The Browns, the Chiefs and the Jets are not in that boat. When a team has a Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers at QB, the Coach and continuity of the team are pretty safe..... When you draft Brady Quiin, Charlie Frye, and Luke Mcnown or trade for Matt Cassel you're in trouble.... Also when you trade up in the draft in the 1st round and swing and miss on a mediocre QB talent you're franchise is bound to be unstable for a while until you find that guy. This is a Quarterback driven league..... You either have one or everyone is on the chopping block.... Unless of course you can assmeble an insane Defense and Run game and make no mistakes but, WTF do you use the draft pick and money at QB for that?
I agree, Also lets not forget the 2 big debacles that the o-line had were against 2 of the top teams in terms of sacks. I believe the Eagles are currently #1 in sacks atm and Baltimore is top 5 also in sacks. I think everyone is shitting on Wayne Hunter too much I mean he was going up against Babin who by the way just came off a 3 sack game and is leading the NFL in sacks. It was ridiculous to not put somebody to help Wayne or even have the backs/tight end at least chipping Babin. That was just a disaster waiting to happen.
Just get my quarterback into the playoffs and he will win games (this is proven fact). Sanchez never has to put this entire team on his back. He doesn't even have to put the entire offense on his back. We have a strong defense and a strong running game. Sanchez just has to be a great offensive manager. He has to evaluate defenses and make quality decisions. Wayne Hunter is garbage throw the ball on 3 step drop. If the play is not there.. protect the football and take the sack. Run the football. defense is blitzing, hit 'em with the play-action. Screens, screens and HB screens (please for the love of god no WR screens (shit is ugly)). Last years team would have kicked the shit out of this years team though. I feel one of the major differences from last year to this year is toughness. I don't believe we are physically as punishing as last year. We have injuries in Cactus, Devito and of course gone forever #92 (disgusting traitor). Braylon could beat the shit out of our entire current receiving corps (in a straight up no holds barred fight). Our #1 and #2 receivers (slow and pussy) are major letdowns. I really didn't know what to expect out of Burress, but I knew Braylon was tough and fast (man that was a loss to Sanchez). I will say Burress has had some real nice blocks on the outside and of course in the redzone he is a beast. Braylon was tougher though and much, much faster. I have faith in Kerley. I just have to include here what it means to fight for that extra yard. Guys like Chrebet and Cotchery always did this, even coles. I have seen Burress fight, but I don't see the same fight in Holmes (and if he does its very likely he will cough up the football). Man up Holmes. Hit somebody and protect the god damn football. I like Shonn Greene. I know he is playing injured. It's really too bad our O-line is hampered by shit birds like Wayne Hunter and Matt Slauson. We definitely need a veteran RT. Much like Faneca. I think McKnight has potential (can protect and carry the football). I believe we also need another back. Tomlinson is a real cool dude (great for selling PSL's 2 years ago). He is a future hall of famer and I love his leadership on the team. Unfortunately, he does not run as well as he use to and is really just an extra blocker and passing option out of the backfield. Finally, Brian Shitty must go. The curse continued down the family tree and this little prankster is a major liability to the holy Jet trinity. I am available to call the offense or better yet sexy rexy should bring in one of his homies. I really can not stand watching pussy-foot, football. Please, Mr. Scott & Mr. Harris give me the gift that lasts forever. Bring back New York Jet style punishing football. It really brings a tear to my eye. thanks
Phil Simms is revered in this town. Take a look at his numbers, and compare them to Sanchez after 3 years. In fact, just look at his whole career and tell me how many "big" years he had. It's amazing to me how much shit this kid gets so early in his career.
Really? Much different era.... Hey while we're here lets compare Sanchez' stats to Bert Jones the guy Bellichik says is the best "pure passer" he's ever seen.
Yeah, different era. Different rules and enforcement. Apples and oranges and all that. Bert Jones. Wow. Yeah he was a great one.
we all know he won a Superbowl. I just had no idea he did it in his second season. I thought it took longer than that. Sanchez better hurry up ... he's way behind schedule. Why can't people show any patience with this guy?
OK.....NP....but if wyou want continuity and Sanchez does too....and if Sanchez stands by Brian Schottenheimer, do you want to ditch Schotty and start with a new OC in Year 4 and/or Year 5 ???? It'd be one thing if Sanchez had disagreements with Cavanaugh or Schotty. This is not like Flacco-Cameron, where Flacco was really PO'd at Jim Zorn leaving.
There's no way the Jets offensive line is average. They've given up more sacks than the average team and the backs running behind them have the third lowest yards per carry in the NFL. This line is probably in the bottom third right now.
