The fact of the matter is we do not know. Josh and Mark are still very young NFL QB's that need a very good surrounding cat be successful. I like the potential of both of them but at this stage in their careers they can still both be busts. It takes a long time to develop into a great QB 5-7 years.
Can you please just imagine what would have happened the last two years if Phillip Rivers was the Jets QB? What a few distinct people on this board do not understand is that the Jets won because of their defense. The best example I can think of is Rex Grossman a couple of years ago in Chicago. He had a great defense and his team went rather far in the playoffs a couple times. Would you say he was better than what Rivers is today? Of course not. He was a middle of the road QB who won because of the defense. If Rivers was on this team the past two years, don't you think the Jets offense would be better? Are you really that biased?
No question rivers puts up better stats. The big question to me is do the jets beat the pats in the playoffs with rivers? I don't think that is a lock by any stretch.
The Jets won as much b/c the QB didn't melt undre pressure as they did b/c of the D and it was the D who cost us in the 2 title games. If Rivers was on our team we probably have more reg season wins but I doubt we have 4 postseason wins. he has had more talent in SD and hasn't been able to win, the lone title game he made he was hurt when SD took the lead w/ Billy Volek.
I agree that it's extremely subjective and it's not a black and white issue. Sanchez did a good job managing the game, not screwing up (0 Ints) and throwing three TD's. Having said that, he only completed a total of 16 passes for 194 yards. In my opinion, I think Rivers would have represented more of a challenge to the Patriots and would have increased the chances of the Jets beating the Patriots.
More talent in SD? Are you saying the offense is the problem in San Diego? How would Sanchez have done in the playoffs last year with SD's defense?
San diego had the number 1 overall defense last year. But I do think that stat is skewed from the crappy division called the AFC west Sent from my Vanilla Tazz using Tapatalk
Not totally true. Sanchez led several come from behind wins last year on the final drive (HOU, DET, CLE, DEN, INDY) and made alot of clutch throws. None bigger than to Braylon last year to set up the game winning FG in the playoffs. Rivers has no such track record.
Its a team game. Jets have much more invested in the D than the O. Sanchez is a QB on his rookie deal that is why his salary is high. But Jets are built to be a defensive team. However, Sanchez has played well, just needs some help from his OL just like any other QB.
Enough is enough, Sanchez deserves credit for the Jets success. I'm pretty sure fans from other teams simply go by his Madden rating or Fantasy numbers, but honestly if people just watched him play, he is a huge part of the success the Jets have been having. Really this guy is a playmaker and has consistently extended and made plays, even against elite competition. Does he make mistakes? Yes of course, but this guy definitely has talent and leadership and I don't understand why people think of him as some garbage QB. You want to see real garbage QBs, check around the league, theres more than enough of them, and they don't even compare to Sanchez.
Actually the last couple of season throwing less against the Patriots has been fairly effective. They've lost 4 games in the last 2 years (2 to the Jets of course) and in 3 of the losses they faced 30 passes or fewer. Only in the Buffalo game this year did they face 40 passes. Jets in '10 - 30 and 25 passes. Browns in '10 - 19 passes. Bills in '11 - 40 passes. The 40 pass game by Fitzpatrick was effective only because Tom Brady threw 45 and was worse than him. In the playoff game that the Pats lost to the Ravens in '09 they faced 10 passes the entire game. I'd much prefer not to be relying on Philip Rivers throwing the ball if I want to beat the Patriots these days. In fact the game last year where the Patriots beat the Chargers Rivers threw 50 passes.
