Are you saying we didn't pick up any one to cover up for TJ? Tomlinson is not here for 'mentoring'.

Well, that's the point, isn't it? LT's here to play, but his experience is a massive bonus for the development of Greene and McKnight. In the same way our backup QB is first of all here to cover for injury to Sanchez, but if he has the experience to be a mentor/coach/whatever as well then he's also adding value when he's not on the field. If we accept, as I think we should, that Kellen Clemens is absolutely fucking rubbish, then having a different backup QB who may also be absolutely rubbish but has experience that he can use to help Sanchez, then Brunell must by definition be an upgrade on Clemens.

Yup. I'm sure the Saints really played there hearts out that game.

Seriously these two do not even compare man. Playing QB is 1000000000000000000 times more difficult than RB.

Oh, the irony. Speaking of inability to comprehend, how do you not comprehend that Clemens is garbage. The win against Tampa was due to nothing Clemens did, unless you consider handing the ball off to be some kind of accomplishment. You want to talk about stats?

Clemens leads Jets in amazing aerial attack vs (OMG) 1-11 Bucs!

Comp Att Pct Yds Avg TD Int Sck SckY Rate
    12 23 52.2 111 4.8 0 0 1 3 65.7

Now, those are some stats to hang your hat on (???). Clemens has not only shown he is not starting quality, but that he can scare the hell out of a lot of Jets fans just by sitting 2nd-string. I'll take Brunell at 40 (and a pocket QB anyway, so who cares), who's played in 175 games over Clemens' garbage.

You think our plays are the only thing Sanchez has to learn as a QB? Interesting. How about game management, pocket presence, reading defenses, selling play action, going through reads, looking off defenders, audibles, etc., etc., etc. Saying "mentoring" is overrated is like saying QB coaches aren't necessary. Which, of course, is asinine.

Yeah, my bad. Brunell played awesome against Panthers and barely lost 10-23. They were inches away from winning. He is gonna be worse than he was last year, especially since he's gotta learn a new offense...yet again.

All those aspects a QB has to learn are very important. But its not a players job to teach you that. That is EXACTLY why you have coaches. Besides, if one doesn't know the offense, how can he tell you what to do?

Let the coaches coach and let the players play. Simple. As a player, Brunell is nothing more than a Brooks Bollinger in his prime (if he ever reached it). KC won the game for the Jets regardless of whom he faced. Brunell lost the game regardless of whom he faced. That is about all we have to compare these two as a player besides knowing the fact Brunell will be 40, and most likely regressed to where he no longer capable of an NFL roster spot.

If we sign him, I hope it works out for us. We have no other option but to hope. But again, Brunell is a QB I would not be lobbying for at age 40.

    I dont understand...

Why people are so against the development of our YOUNG QB that we spent draft picks to get 5th overall.

I'am so willing to risk our back-up being an old man WHILE Mark learns how to play the QB position from a pretty good one. Oh yeah that pretty good QB WANTS TO COACH. He is joining this team to be apart of Mark Sanchez's development. Brunell is WAITING to sign with us.

I think The Buccaneers would like Brunell to help out Josh Freeman. Maybe the Lions with Stafford? Browns with Colt McCoy? Oh wait they got Jake Delhomme... maybe we should of gotten that guy.

Comparing KC to Brunell even today is an absolute joke. KC cannot handle holding a football in place so our kicker can make a 25 yard field goal. He was so nervous in the Bills game he bobbled a snap and had to take a sack.

He is a sack of shit.

I'm not sure why you're so hung up on one game; you have 174 others to choose from, many of which were W's. And comparing Brunell to Bollinger tells me you never really watched Brunell play when he was with the Jags. He's not even sort of, in the smallest possible way, comparable to Bollinger.

And why are you also so hung up on him being 40? How old is Favre? QB is the one position in this league where you can make up for age with talent. Brunell is not Favre, not even close, but he has more than enough talent to wear a headset, and step in should Mark go down.

 That's just an awesome point to make...

I appreciate the work Clemens has put in, and how much of a sport he's been being dangled the starting position. But he sucks for a QB option. And his meager experience is no substitute for veteran experience. The only way I would want to keep him is if he's the cheapest option.

That's a joke right? OK well I'll tell you what, why don't you go out and buy a KC jersey. If he's such a good back up then you should show your support and get his jersey, then proceed to the nearest sports bar for a large dose of ridicule.

It will be interesting to see if the Baltimore Ravens' acquisition of backup QB Marc Bulger for the outlandish amount of $3.8 million on a one-year contract will have a trickle-down effect on the Jets.

From all indications, the Jets are planning to sign backup QB Mark Brunell on or after July 24, when the "Final Eight" restrictions are lifted. Neither Brunell nor Bulger is close to what he used to be, but will Bulger's stunning deal drive up Brunell's asking price? Many figured Brunell would sign for the minimum ($860,000 for a player with his experience), but now you have to wonder. This premise, of course, is based on the assumption that Brunell doesn't already have a handshake deal in place with the Jets.

The Jets, as you know, haven't been throwing around much cash this offseason. Here's another question: What if the Ravens decide to part ways with backup Troy Smith, who could be the odd-man out in their quarterback mix? Rex Ryan knows Smith from his days as a Ravens assistant. Would the Jets be interested? I doubt it. They have young quarterbacks; what they need is a seasoned veteran.

Bulger would've been a better choice than Brunell because he has more football left than the almost-40 journeyman, but there's no way the Jets were going to play $3.8 million. Like the Jets, the Ravens are in a Super Bowl-or-bust mode, except they're willing to pay a premium for quarterback insurance. The Jets, apparently, are not.

This knucklehead believes the Bulger deal will impact the possible signing of Brunell.

Let's face it, Brunell wants to win, the Jets want an experienced backup.

I can't believe the Ravens gave Bulger that much in the first place.
