I'd much rather have winston Justice or Mcneil later anyway. Dbrick is a twig and the other two tackles i just listed are mamoths, not to mention we don't have to pay them top dollar like we would with Dbrick
No, I am saying that he has a better chance for success than any other OL in the draft. And if he didn't have a high chance for success he wouldn't be the top rated OL by far. And to add to my story..... This scenario is not completely made up. It is pulled from a team that plays in the same stadium as we do. Does anybody remember two years ago when the Giants were forced to line up Shockey and have him block a lot of the lack of a good offensive lineman. What was their record that season? Ahh, so the Giants got smart and went out and signed a good offensive lineman who would plug that hole and look what happened to their record.
Where do you think Eric Winston, O"Callaghan, Whitworth, colledge, gilles, mangold, scott and Mcniell going to go we could definately pick up the best one available later in day one and we really wont be losing much in passing up D'Brick as apposed to picking up an Offensive or Defensive Impact player like Davis or Williams. but i do see the logic in your argument about out #4 TE having to come in to block, and that would suck.
Ohh and wait... can you see into the future that Vernon Davis is going to be a great TE. Why don't you look at the TE busts we have drafted in the past and tell me what you think about them. Nothing is for certain in the draft.
How many players have been the top rated players at their positions and have ended up as busts or even being mediocre?? too many to even count I am by no means saying that DBrick is not going to be good I am saying that the draft has alot of good OL and we can pick one or more up with our numerous picks throughout the draft......use #29 for all i care #4 is TOO HIGH for OL.......OL is not our only need
Finally someone who agrees on something, but to argue your other point, the DE's in the NFL are becoming faster and faster. They are huge guys who are light on their feet and can make quick moves are the Tackles. So, we draft a guy like O'Calaghan who is huge and slow. Someone like Seymour or J. Taylor will feast on that and do a little quick move and blow by him. D'Brick has the quickness and agility to make quick adjustments. Plus, he has added the size to go along with that. No other o-lineman in the draft has the physical skills at OT that he has.
I have never once said that Davis is going to be amazing or a sure thing and yes i know there are no guarantees in the draft but you honestly cannot say that we shouldnt draft a 1st round TE, just because the ones from the past have not worked out
So are you saying that Vernon Davis couldn't turn out to be a bust. Because thats absurd that you would think that one position's top player could be a bust and another position's will definitly be great. And TE isn't even a need. We just resigned Baker and we still have Jolley and Joel Dressen sitting behind him. I don't understand why we would draft a TE with so many other needs.
This is not my "love-fest" for Vernon Davis......this is me saying that OL should not be picked at #4
Thats also my point on picking up a guy like Mario Williams it would be great to see a dominate DE who wants to play in the Green and White beating the other teams huge and slow OTs. In the end look at who we are arguing about ( our Choices ) A DOMINATE TOP RATED OFFENSIVE TACKLE A DOMINATE TOP RATED DEFENSIVE END A DOMINATE TOP RATED TIGHT END A DOMINATE TOP RATED OLB FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS IT LOOKS LIKE WE ARE IN A GREAT POSITION TO PICK UP REALLY SOLID PLAYERS OR EVEN MOVE DOWN AND GET A COUPLE OF MORE DAY ONE PICKS
It took us long enough to reach the agreement.. although i think i won the Davis vs. D'Brick arguement.. but whos counting
whatever happens....I will have to find out about it later in the day saturday....im missing the draft to move into my new place.....sucks big time....i dont get to be part of the live excitement
hahaha.......thats a good one.....u must have not been counting because alot more people talked about getting OL later in the draft
Bottom-line, you pick the player at # 4 who you think has the best chance to be a starter, regardless of position. If Antonio Gates was coming out at #4, you wouldn't pick him b/c he only a TE?
enjoy the game....should be fun yankees blew it big time tonight.....i was pissed.....cant move men around the bases.....13 or more walks and only 2 runs.....unreal
