I have said I think he will be great, but have admitted I could be wrong. I've also said I think this kid has a very high floor. There is absolutely NOTHING about him that says "bust." That's is just patently absurd and ridiculous and makes you look like you know nothing about QBs.
I don't think he is going to be good I think he will be like almost every other spread offense qb that doesn't translate to the nfl I could be wrong also and would still probably take him at 6 because I agree he has a very high floor if in the right situation. He also is probably 2 to 3 years away from anywhere near that. I wouldn't trade picks to move up from 6 to get him tho
Let me do say if we do take him I Hope you are right and he does become great It's not like im going to hope he fails so I look right
I have this feeling we may use MO to trade to 2 and get Mariota. Couple Little things Mac said gives me this feeling we are all in on Mariota. Just gut feel
Thank you. That's more reasonable. I can understand not liking a spread QB, but imo it's a mistake to lump them all together. Besides, Gailey runs a spread offense. I'm not a gambling man, but if I were, I'd bet you that he is ready to start by TC next year, if not sooner. There's no way he takes 2-3 years to get ready. He's too smart, too hard a worker, too athletic, and his football IQ is just too high. I can easily see him being ready to go by week 10-12 if he's allowed to focus on what he needs to focus on. IMO, if it would take a player like him that long, then he'll never be ready. I can also understand your not being willing to trade up to get him. Unless you're one player away from being a SB contender, I think a QB is the only player/position for whom it makes sense to trade up. I'd be willing to trade up for him, because I think he's going to be that good, but don't think the Jets have the necessary ammo to trade up unless they trade Mo, nor do I think that TN, Washington or the other teams would be willing to trade down.
I've wondered about that myself. Maybe that's why Mac is importing all these FAs and not paying Mo. I know it wouldn't be a popular move with many Jets fans, but I'd do it in a NY minute. As a rule, I despise trading up. Draft picks are just too valuable. Aside from being just one player away from being a SB contender, I think the QB position is the only one worth trading up for, especially that high in the first round. I think Mariota is that good, however.
I have a very strong feeling this whole team the jets are planning is based off of having mariota then we wont get him and the plan will not work. We will still be far better then last year though
I have to believe Mac has something up his sleeve...our season can't depend on Geno who we know stinks and a guy like Fitzpatrick whose role is a backup
Much better. You have to think about it this way: if we were to just whimsically trade Mo to another team, his market value would probably be a mid to high first round pick. Now consider that if we were to do that trade with the Titans, we would give them Mo and get a high first rounder (fair) but ON TOP OF IT, give THEM a high first rounder. The draft tends to distort people's context of what a fair trade is; you need to isolate it and imagine the trade is being done in October.
Not if one of these QBs can turn into long term franchise QBs. I'd give up more than Wilkerson to secure that.
I see them getting all these veterans to help bring a rookie qb in and help him grow so by the time all those veteran recievers and players are gone, he will be good enough to build the team around as a franchise QB.
