I don't buy into any of their analysis but the two things they do have access to that some blogger sitting in a basement does not is (i) a team of young bloggers doing research for them and (ii) some level of NFL and College insiders/scouts/GMs and coaches. _
I want him to run when he needs to(escape the pocket, buy more time for receivers, get an easy first down, etc.). How has he shown a propensity for getting injured? He played in every game while he was at Oregon, 13, 13 and 15 this year. This AC joint sprain is the first I've heard of any type of injury actually. You also have no way of validating whether or not Dungy or Mora watched film on MM. I doubt they'd throw out a Rodgers comparison without having seen some type of film on him though. I never said he didn't have smart things to say, and even if I had, it definitely would not be because he isn't a "name brand". I just disagree with his Sanchez comparison and have displayed my reasons why I believe he is wrong. They are two completely different players IMO, and both the stats and their physical attributes back that up. Also, the fact that you're trying to make it seem like Tony Dungy is trying to generate headlines for himself is ridiculous. You have no way of knowing how much film Dungy watched or didn't watch, but like I said, I doubt he just threw out Rodgers as his first comparison without doing some homework on it first. BTW, just found this little gem out. "Dungy knows a lot about Mariota: Dungy's son, Eric, was a wide receiver at Oregon from 2011-13 before finishing his career this season at USF." Link to statement is below, and is located in the 4th paragraph. So that kind of throws away your assumption that Dungy has not watched Mariota play, doesn't it? http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...arcus-mariota-is-aaron-rodgers-in-the-waiting
You might be right on Cleveland, and they have 2 #1 I believe. Washington might trade with them, I wonder about Tennessee
The blogger (Matt Waldman), who wrote that football outsiders piece, has also said that Mariota was much better functioning in the pocket against Ohio State l.. The FSU game was one of the worst games of his career as a passer.
Then we have to ask ourselves would any top 5 team really want to move that far back? Impact players become more scarce outside the top 10, especially if these teams are wanting to go defense this year. Williams, Gregory, Ray, Shelton, and Fowler are (probably) all going to go in the top 10. I just don't know if those teams would be willing to pass on one of them, even if it means they get an extra first.
So what you are telling me is he will throw for 1 TD and 11 INTs his first year getting starts? Such hope we have! Lulz I guess his ceiling is a mobile Eli Manning as Stokes said. Now THAT is funny. Makes my Vince Young comparison much better.
