We need to find a trade partner for mo who will bite and give up decent compensation. This deal will make it almost impossible to re sign Wilk. Deal the man and move on stock up for the QB's next draft. I'm glad the bills will have this money tied up for a long while won't allow them many more massive contracts
Very unsmart to overpay the guy before the season. Wouldn't the advantage be to make him play hungry. And at least get a motivated 2015 out of him.
I'm not trying to bash the player. i like how he plays. but wasn't he just suspended for violating substance abuse policy? i'd say that's a problem, and a pretty big consideration when doling out that much in guarantees. same concern i'd have with guaranteeing Sheldon Richardson to a huge deal. the deal is really about 17M per, not 15M per. factoring in the current year to an extension is misleading. he'll be getting paid on avg about 17M per going forward. if it were 15M going forward, it would still be high, but not quite as crazy.
Really? I sure wish I was the GM for Buffalo he doesn't do shit. Rex does the drafting, talks contracts and scouts players.
The timing of the deal is bad for the Bills and the Jets. If the Bills were willing to pony up that type of money they could have waited until the 2015 season was over. The worst case was that they franchise Dareus for a similar amount for 2016 to what he'll cost them on the cap anyway. Now the worst case is that he gets hurt and they're screwed for years. Obviously this will make Mo even more determined to get his huge deal and unfortunately he's going to have to get that from somebody else on the open market or after a trade.
I don't know the power structure in Buff. Or if the GM was involved in the hiring of Rex. If not there will be problems.
the bitch of it is we will probably lose Richardson as well. he's too high risk imo to be worth the type of money you know he will anchor for. was hoping to get something done with Mo. his trade value won't be great if we tag him either.
Richardson is 3 years out. That's a lifetime in the NFL. Mo we have to deal with right now and the market is running against us at the moment.
the GM does not need to hire the HC. Mac wasn't the decision maker in hiring Bowles. i would expect them to be consulted though, to ensure they can work together. from what i've seen in Buff, there are no harmony issues at all. but it is funny that every single transaction in Buff is someone a Rex move...lol the GM must have an easy job
i agree it is a lifetime in the NFL. Mo is a player i'd want to re-up, and that likelihood seems to be diminishing. Richardson, who knows? but he's not someone we can count on for the future at this point either. amazing how quick things change.
Rex has his influence and as we know all too well his pride and joy is defense. Imo he has no clue about budget or contracts. Plus he wants to impress these guys and what they love the most is money. Look Geno it's speculation only on my part. When he didn't get what he wanted last year (a 10 mil Cb or 2) things can get nasty.
Nasty? They got that way because the team sucked last season. As for getting him his 10mil CB or 2 if Idzik would had gotten them both they may still be here. Plus it must say something when the New GM and HC go out and sign 3 new starting CBs.
I think it says the owner made that decision to overpay two former players and told the GM to sign them. 16 mil a year for Revis is way over market no team would have paid him that. And Cro getting around 8. We'll see but it's not smart business and business is a big part of running a team. Personally I love having Revis back. If I am going to overpay anyone he's the guy I do it for. As for Cro, he doesn't deserve that much money. I wouldn't have done it.
It's opinion based on reading and following the team. No matter what anyone says they don't know what really happened. The owner spent money to deflect criticism. And never liked Revis or his agents. He let Idzik take the hit on that one.
They spent money because they had to under CBA agreement. It seems to me that you always think it either the owner or Rex that does and did the signing.
The owner signs the checks and makes the final decision on contracts. I'm not exonerating Idzik he was fair at best. But most Jets fans believe Rex had a strong say in the draft as shown by all of the high picks on D.
I'd say sure. And Rex especially. Remember when he waited outside Bart Scott's house at midnight when free agency started.
