What would you have done with Ed Reed? Rex apparently handed him the starting job based on a physical.
Yep, don't understand why we couldn't bring in Fitzpatrick or even Campbell. Instead we re-sign Gerrard who was never going to play in the first place! I trust in Idzik but I can't understand his idea of a Qb competition this year.
This made me laugh. For SOME reason the Tannenbaum/Bradway personnel team was always petrified of drafting young skill players early & would always lean on trades/free agent signings instead. But it's hard in this era to replace skill talent as team's rarely let their real playmakers leave..which is why you have to take chances on a few skill guys early in the draft to grow your own platoon.Up until recently the Jets have resisted that. Thomas Jones,Jason Mccareins,Braylon Edwards,Santonio Holmes..Now alot of those guys produced for the Jets but never consistently or more than acouple years. They age, get an injury or become too expensive to keep. But the game has changed...you MUST have consistent outside skill to compete.
Personally, I wouldn't have brought Reed in...but that's just me. But, let's say, for arguments sake, I had to deal with him coming in. Make no mistake about it...Allen gets the starts until I see Reed, in practice, not only pick up on our terminology but also see how he competes against the guys already here. That is how I would have handled it.
forgive me for walking in way late on a conversation.... was this not how it was handled? if they signed him sight unseen and just handed him the job then that is complete and total bullshit.
Welcome to the bullshit. Oh, they saw him...he passed a physical etc...but as far as I can tell he started the first game he was here....so yeah.
Idzik was a Cap guy, not a personnel guy in Seattle so once again, its OJT for a critical manager of the franchise. Small wonder we never seem to get it right as Woody never hires the guy that actually is good at what we need done but instead, tries to find that undiscovered genius that somehow was miscast in the position he previously occupied.
thanks mezz, i shouldnt be suprised.. bring in an old ex player who hasnt been able to play all year because he has lost 4 steps and stick him right in on top of a young guy who is learning and improving. yeah sounds like the type of thing our hc would do.
