Miami isn't a bad team, they just aren't as good as the Jets. Some of that good record is luck in playing us at the right time(2nd gamesin '10 and '11) and they scored 3 non offensive TDs to barely beat us the 2nd time in '09. Some teams match up better w/ others. Super Bowl contenders? maybe if he is 100% healthy, Miami definitely has some talent to work w/ but how will the D adjust to a new system and coordinator? Can Reggie Bush be as effective this year? will they have fixed the OL? Remember Peyton is 35 coming off a major injury and missing a season so assuming health isn't a given, not to mention that w/ much more talent around him in Indy in his prime he was only able to get to 2 SBs and win just 1.
JetsUK, at least you guys took a chance. The organization saw a guy they wanted and made the move. I gotta respect them for that. It doesn't always work out, but in my opinion it's worth the risk. NyJunc, What i'm refering to is only if he is 100% healthy, which I know is nowhere near a sure thing, but I dont think he would play if he wasn't, or we would play him if he wasn't. And obviously every team will have questions going into the season, I just think we have the talent on defense to adjust to a new system. We might start slow, but I think we have the right players to make it happen. Like I said, I don't think it was just nolan. Sometimes a good DC can come in and take poor talent and make it look good. I think Nolan came in and took good talent and made it great. Maybe not great but you know what I'm saying. And on our oline, I was surprised to hear how many sacks we allowed. I think our oline is very close to being good. We need jake long to stay healthy for a whole season, but other than that, we have Incognito at LG and he's been good. Not great, but I would say above average. So I'm not worried about him, I think he's fine. Pouncey played great as a rookie last year. So I think we're set at center. RG and RT are the 2 issues. I think if we can draft maybe Riley Reiff in the 1st (trust me I'm not that excited about drafting another Olineman in the 1st round) we will be pretty darn good next year. I think we can fill RG pretty easily with somebody from free agency, or somebody already on our team. And I think if we got Manning, we would make a point of fixing our Oline. Bottom line is, everybody has questions heading into the season, and nobody knows how it will all play out. But I do think we have the talent. One of the main reasons I want peyton next season is just the possibility of what we could do. If we stick with matt moore I know we aren't going anywhere. I'm not going to have very high hopes anyways for the season. If we get Manning I can at least get excited for next year, knowing there is a POSSIBILITY of going somewhere. At least playoffs.
Right but do we really want to run the risk of setting the franchise back years by signing Peyton and just making the playoffs? I mean Chad Pennington got us to the 1st round. 4 years later are you proud of just getting there? We need to go after a guy who can set us up for YEARS of playoff contention because years of consistent football is what leads to breaking through and winning the Super Bowl. Unless you're the Giants of course. Then you can suck and win Super Bowls in between sucking
absolutely i would never knock the FO for trying - he was a highly touted prospect, he was expected to go in the first 5 picks and we had to make a move there is still time for things to turn around and for Sanchez to justify his selection but i wouldnt put money on it at this stage (also depressing that the colts will probably get to sign Luck for about half of what we had to give Sanchez )
Its probably like 10 rich fans it is not representative of the fanbase although our fanbase is terrible
Yep, Dolphins and the Jets are like the multitude of other teams who didn't happen to suck in a year where there were a lot of quarterbacks coming out of the draft. Look at the Colts. This is their first losing season in 10+ years and they end up getting Andrew Luck who according to every expert is going to be a solid NFL QB. What are the chances Peyton can't play and the Colts fall apart to the one pick?
Exactly I was just thinking this the other day. The Rams are lucky too. When we had the #2 pick the top prospects were Alex Smith,Ronnie Brown and Cadillac When we had the #1 they were Matt Ryan, Jake Long, Chris Long Not exactly a lot of value in having those picks those years
Wrong. It's their ownership group! All you apparently need to be a Dolphins part-owner is $5 million, and possibly an overpass and some Dr. Pepper
He was a top prospect along with Smith and many thought he would be drafted #1 overall. The 49ers didn't draft him because Nolan thought they would butt heads. He slipped to #24 mostly becasue teams felt they had more pressing needs other than QB. I guess the Dolphins thought they were better off with Brown, Feely and Fiedler at QB. :rofl2:
Rodgers was widely predicted to go #1 then as it got closer to the draft Smith seemed to come out of nowhere and built up a huge amount of steam so that by the draft they were seen as being neck and neck. My mate is a big niners fan and had many arguments on the 49ers webzone as to who the niners should draft with him being a huge fan of Rodgers so he can feel smug but more just feels annoyed that the niners dropped a total bollock on that one.
Rodgers was also coming from a long line of QBs who had the same coach in college and all flopped in the NFL. His weird ball carrying technique was queried too, up on his shoulder, iirc.
Wow, not much to choose from. Looking at those, you can't fault the picks though. Colts are very very forunate if Andrew Luck turns out to be the real deal. Many franchise look for a QB who can be a great starter 8-10 years, imagine if they got 2 back to back.
