Well last year was just Andy and friends singing their swan song. I wouldn't put too much stock into that. I recall reading that his offenses haven't been lower than 15th and are usually in the top 10 or so range. If that is the case, that would be a massive improvement. Having just an average offense would have won us two to three more games. I don't think the guy is a savior, but I think he is a very good option for what we have right now. No need to be so critical.
+1 You think Gruden was running the D when he won in Tampa? Dungy running the O in Indy when they won a SB? Billick had anything significant to do with D in Baltimore's championship year? Ditka with the D in 85 with Chicago? Sure a HC has responsibilities for all 3 units and decides what type of system they're gonna run, but how many HCs are well rounded/exceptional in all 3???? Give Rex the Colts instead of Dungy and they still win it IMO. If anyone has any suggestions for a HC that is great in all 3 phases of the game by all means let me know.....otherwise Ill take my chances with Rex (a man who is top of the class on one side of the ball) then 85-90% of the rest of the HCs out there. ALSO, I give Rex credit for admitting and acknowledging his lack of knowledge on the offensive side of the ball and his willingness to learn then have some ego maniac that can't admit his faults and will do run things his way no matter how much/little experience he has on either side of the ball. Funny points being made in this thread. Jim Caldwell and Cam Cameron called offensive plays while Dean Pees called the D for Baltimore in 2012. Wtf was Harbaugh doing all year? He must know nothing about offense or defense! ...............
I wasn't being serious. As an HC oversees all phases he will naturally be less involved in each one than it's coordinator. No one here really knows how involved Rex is in the offense; we know he loves the run game/ball control and in 09/10 that was huge for us, but he obviously had nothing to do with it.
I have been a Jets fan for as long as I can remember. I may not have lived through all of the painless years many of you on here have, but I have lived through quite a number of them. Ever since I joined this board, I have seen one prevailing thing. Jets fans have a problem with something always! First it was Tanny. Then it was Woody. Now it's Rex. The fact is, some of you will never be happy with who we have. You will always find a scapegoat in our misery. Rex Ryan, although not the greatest of coaches ever, is one hell of a coach. He has been a Head Coach for 4 seasons and has 2 AFC Championship appearances. He has put out a top 10 defense in every one of his 4 seasons, including multiple top 5's. Every player that walks through that building loves Rex and loves playing for him. He was dealt the worst talent possible and given absolutely nothing to work with. He still managed to put a team on the field that won 6 games. That team was talent-less, old, slow, and injured. 6-10 with that team was a miracle to be completely honest. Not to mention he is dealing with Mark Sanchez every snap. All in all, I absolutely LOVE the guy. Great coach, great person, and just lives and breathes football. His defense's are incredible and his winning mindset is spot on. I hope he stays for years and years to come. He damn sure deserves it. You few fans are like a miserable girlfriend. No matter what you do, you will never impress her. She will always have a problem.
i find myself trying to bring people down from being too high. not every guy loves rex, there were ALOT of guys the past 2 years who really DIDNT love rex. he lost his locker room in 11. most great coaches on one side of the ball will then boost the other side of the ball. rex is so fucking concerned with his defense that all resources were put towards the defense, free agents and draft pick after draft pick. show me something... do it without the top guys on the team. let the meager offense that needs the help get the picks. on top of the sanchez factor, rex has alot of things he can improve on. too many guys seeem to think he is so great. he is a decent coach, he is a very good defensive coach but only a decent head coach. i do not hate him. i do see the good things he does. i love the fact that you dont hear anything from him... but i also think idzik will give him this year and hten move on pretty much no matter what.
Wow, are we watching the same team? The job of a HC is to coach the coaches. He should be involved with every aspect of the game. Too much association with one side of the ball distorts his view of the game. Idzik will take care of it when the time comes.
Rex oversees the entire team Offense Mornhinweg calls the plays Rex decides 4th down calls(FG, punt, go for it, etc.) Defense Rex and DT run it together with Rex making the play calls I doubt there's an issue we go an offensive mastermind running the O and a defensive mastermind running the D, now we gotta add in a few more players and move forward
