Haha...he is really a warrior. JennyVrentas Jenny Vrentas Rex confirms high ankle sprain for Mangold, says doesn't look good for Sun. However, Mangold thinks he can play and isn't ruled out.
It does sound like he might miss the Raiders game, but be available for Baltimore. If so, apparently Slauson will back up Baxter and Schauderaff will be the backup guard.
Ftr, I think many here overrate Callahan as an OL coach. He's very good no doubt, and I am happy he's with the Jets. But he's not perfect, and to the present situation he can't coach a garbage player into a pro bowler.
I already ordered my Baxter jersey, I'm so glad we signed this beast. Plus he has long blonde hair just like Mangold, maybe we can slap Mangold's jersey on him and the Raiders won't know until the first play.
I tend to think Baxter will improve. All reports say he is a technically sound, solid offensive lineman. I think he'll certainly be better with a week of preparation. That said, it really wouldn't shock me if Mangold came back. Holy crap, is this dude a man or what? I like tot hink that my Norwegian ancestors were something like Nick Mangold. The dude may or may not wake up in the morning and eat raw Grizzly bear sandwiches for breakfast. Anyway, as I said elsewhere, my priority is to have Mangold back for the Ravens game, lest Sanchez die. I think we can handle the Raiders and win in a messy, close game without him. -X-
I have a feeling that he comes back in a week. This guys an animal and will play through the pain. No point in killing himself to get on the field against the Raiders though.
I much rather him sit out the Raiders game, and be ready for the Ravens. I hope Rex and the staff agree.
I doubt we trade for anyone for two games, but knowing Tanny, nothing is impossible. He might trade for some one just to be an insurance for any future injuries once Mangold is back, but then u can just sign Andre Gurode for that. He can play almost the entire line.
Mangold is one of the toughest beasts in the NFL, however does anyone know if he could do more damage coming back too early? I can see him playing through the pain but I would hate to see him come back early and Odin forbid lose him for an extended period by worsening the injury.
He couldn't coach a 2nd round guard to beat out Hunter for two years. Slauson was a great pick up and Im glad we have Callahan here.
I don't know, but knowing Mangold, he'd be in the huddle to atleast give it a go. He is probably the toughest linemen in the NFL. We've seen it countless times him going down and not looking good for the future and the next thing u know is he is out there without people noticing.
I said that to a friend today too. He mentioned that he couldn't be that bad off since he was walking around on the sidelines and I said, "The man is a freakin' BEAST... He could have a broken leg and still be walking around on the sidelines with a smile on his face!"
mangold is a tough mofo. i remember last year when he got hurt mid game when someone rolled up on him...it looked REALLY bad. like torn ACL bad, but he came back the next game no problem. forgot which game that happened. rob turner came in for him
I say keep him out vs. Oakland. If the Jets win, keep him out vs. Baltimore. Let him be ready for New England.
Hopefully he will be ready for the Ravens game. No Mangold, against that team, in that hostile environment could be very bad for Mark's health.
This. Baltimore can be beat without Mangold, but Jets can't reach playoffs without him. The OL would be a much bigger concern without him. If the reports say 2-4 weeks, its 2 weeks. Mangold will be back against Patriots and theres a slight chance he'll play against Ravens.
