Glad to hear he isnt flying out there. High ankle sprains can swell up on long flights. Mangold should be playing at Baltimore which should have been the target all along.

I'm hoping for the Ewing effect in regards to the O-line and run game.

The fact that he's in a hard cast has me worried. The fact that he is still pretty young is very much in his favor as these type of injuries typically heal much more slowly in the 30 and over crowd.

I hope he's back in a week but everyone should be prepared for a considerably longer period of absence.

It's a walking boot.........Much different than a "cast". It takes the pressure/weight off, it isn't designed to stabilize/immobilize for the bone to heal. Also it is easily removable, where a hard cast isn't.

Everything i've read and heard on Mangold is he's doing better then expected and should play next week. That would be great.

That's good. My mistake regarding the cast. The NYT reported he was on crutches and in a walking "cast" which I should have known was really just a removable boot. It seems he's making good progress which is very promising since with severe cases, there is little, if any, signs of improvement in the first weeks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Whenever he starts running and cutting in the pool will give us a decent timetable for his return.

As long as no set backs result, I would love to see him back against the Ravens, but more realistically it should be against NE.

I wonder how much the Oakland game will go into it. I guess it depends. If Baxter does very well and the Jets win by a decent to wide margin, maybe the team will be more inclined to have Mangold sit another week. Conversely if Baxter sucks, that could lead the team to think Mangold should go in there. In the middle is in the middle.

On one hand it shouldn't matter, and should all be about Mangold's condition, except where his condition is ambiguous. Then it might matter what happens in the Oakland game.

    I agree completely.

If Baxter holds up and Sanchez is able to eat solid food after this game, then there is a good chance Mangold is held back to the Pats.

If Baxter is a disaster, well than Mangold is going to heal quicker, in exactly 2 weeks.

I do not know what middle ground would bring. I am hoping Baxter is adequate and the Jets win and they are playing with house money.......still this Baxter thing and not taking care of the depth on the Oline is really putting the Jets in a pinch.

    We all are.............

yeah hopefully baxter can step his game up till mangold is back. The injury to Turner durin the preseason really screwed us over. Nd so far i havent like the play of our rt Hunter hes gonna get sanchez killed if he keeps playin the way he's been playin maybe the lockout has somethin to do with the oline struggles so far but if he dont start showin improvement we may see Ducasse in there sooner rather than later which isnt the greatest idea either considering we all know he is not ready. .

So the Jets would put in Ducasse who isn't ready if Hunter still provides a better alternative despite the inconsistencies? That doesn't make any sense.

I agree with the thinking, but I really think that Mangold is going to lie or do what ever he can to return next week.

I'm hoping that he shows extreme improvement by the 30th to show he can play against Baltimore. That game is going to be huge. The Ravens just showed last week that they can be upset, because they'll be the favorites at home.

Actually, the plan in the event that Baxter struggles badly calls for Slauson replacing Baxter at center (which Slauson is dreading) and Ducasse playing the left guard spot next to D'Brickshaw. Hunter would remain in his RT position.

Im Pretty Confident in Baxter. I dont think he gave up any sacks while he was in the game, (Although it was the Jaguars) but regaurdless, I feel confident with his ability playing center. What really worries me though, is was Nick Our Long snapper as well?

Jets always have a long-snapper specialist. Used to be James Dearth, now it's Tanner Purdum.

Well lets hope the week of getting Baxter the calls etc helps keep Sanchez alive until Mangold returns. As much as Baxter is a woory the fact is that Hunter and Slauson haven't been anywhere near what they were last year.

lets hope they step up in Nick's absence
