Draft position does not necessarily make someone better. Tim Tebow is a first round pick so by that logic he should be much better now but he is not. Ducasse is not second round material. He is physically gifted but not a very intelligent offensive linemen. He has improved from last year but lets give him more time before he is ready to beat out a veteran in Hunter. A team of the best O line coaches in the world wouldn't have Ducasse ready to start right now.
lol at the lunatic fringe freaking out after a nice win. Mangold has a sprained ankle. Hardly a reason for the overreaction of some on here.
We obviously need Mangold for the long haul, so it would be stupid to bring him back sooner if it means risking re-injury and having him miss even more time. On the other hand, if he can get the go-ahead from the team doctors before the Patriots game, we could sure use him.
this just in: JennyVrentas Jenny Vrentas Rex Ryan deems Nick Mangold 'very iffy' for Oakland game: Jets center is convinced he can play through high ankl... bit.ly/o03low Rex should not let Mangold come to oakland, do not want to risk him re-injuring that ankle in oakland when we have two huge games against the ravens and patriots coming up. let him rest and heal up, I think we can take oakland without mangold.
Where did you get your medical degree from? Rex also told us that Santonio was highly questionable and Holmes was fine.
Unless the reports of a high ankle sprain are incorrect or misleading, it is extremely unlikely that Mangold suits up this weekend. Not gonna happen. There is some degree of hope he could return in time for Baltimore. That would be absolutely huge for us because even the thought of Ngata and Suggs coming at Sanchez 1000 miles per hour with Baxter at C and Hunter at RT is beyond terrifying.
True, but when u pick an OL in the 2nd round, you are picking him because u think he is a better fit for the team out of all the remaining players. If JaMarcus Russel was a bust, that doesn't mean he wasn't the presumed best player in the draft (or a top 10 candidate to say the least).
little bit of info re Baxter Colin Baxter SI Grade 2.32 Grading System Position: C Class: 5Sr School: Arizona Conference: Pac-10 HT: 6-2.5 WT: 300 40 Time: 5.11 Biography: Four-year starter awarded all-Conference honors the last two years. Played both guard and center at Arizona. Positives: "Explosive blocker most effective in motion. Moves well on his feet, quick out to the second level, and seals linebackers from the play. Blocks with good knee bend, effectively adjusts to opponents and knocks defenders from their angle of attack. Displays footwork in space, is quick in all his movements, and uses all his assets to their maximum. Keeps his head on a swivel, effectively leads the offensive line, and is very aware of what's happening on the field." Negatives: Must do a better job correctly placing his hands into defenders. Overextends into blocks on occasion. Not a dominant drive blocker who opens up the middle of the field. Analysis: Baxter has been a solid player on the college level who has been productive and durable. He's one of the more underrated centers in the draft and is versatile enough to play any of the three interior blocking positions. Baxter offers potential in a zone blocking system and could eventually work his way into a starting lineup as he physically matures and adds strength to his frame. Mangold will probably tell you he could play through a broken ankle. If the doctord think it is too much of a risk to play then he should sit for the Raiders and heal up for the much more important divisional game. Regardless of how challenging Oakland will be, that game ien't as important as the Patriots game is for many, many reasons. It's not worth it to risk one of our best players a week before a game of that magnitude. That being said, if the doctors give him the go ahead then the CS should play him. No reason to hold him out simply out of fear.
@ Pats is 2 weeks after Oakland. @ Ravens is the week after oakland That said @ Ravens is still INCREDIBLY important since that tie breaker could be exponentially important if we end up going the Wildcard route again
I meant to say that there is no reason to risk Mangold against the Raiders when we have the Patriots TWO weeks later. Sorry for the back-to-back posts but for some reason trying to edit my previous one is crashing my browser.
Anyway we see Slauson at Center and Vlad playing Guard? I know everyone thinks Vlad is terrible but as an interior lineman he is a great run blocker.
Run blockers don't play LG. Vlad would get ripped there. This staff knows if Vlad is going to start it's at RG or RT.
Wrong. RG is for Pass Blocking as the Right Guard usually goes up against the 3 technique DT one on one, who is usually a quicker DT with more pass rushing moves. RG is said to be one of the most difficult positions on the line because there is usually no help.
