I wouldn't be too sure about that. 49ers win sunday and the Jets are only a half game out. I could easily see the Jets striking out the last 3 against the division opponents then all we have to hope for is the Niners to win just 1 of their final three
Mangold, Giacomini, McLendon and Mauldin are out for the game. Khiry Robinson, Antonio Allen and Jalin Marshall are also out. That should help the Jets' losing cause, although Giacomini's being out is addition by subtraction. I'm not sure who will return punts or KOs since J. Marshall is out, and both Ross and Spiller waived. Pryor and Mo Wilk may also be out. I wonder who the Niners have out.
The thing that sucks about probably cutting Mangold is that he's one of the only high paid veterans that can probably still squeeze out another good season or two. And what do you know? We actually have a competent player ready to take his god damn place. There is no realistic replacement for the declining players like Revis, Harris, or Clady. Lee is going to be a player in this league, but he plays a much different position in that weakside backer role that often doesn't have to take on guards like Harris does. Meanwhile Mangold will probably get cut as Wesley Johnson takes over and does a fine job with gaping holes at strongside backer, cornerback and left tackle. But really, who cares if he doesn't retire a Jet. He'll go into the ring of honor and if he plays anymore it'll most likely be at most a year or two more. There's no such thing as loyalty in the salary cap NFL. Players, coaches and owners are fine with it. Fans should be too. Business, boys.
At least he'll give a fuck about doing so unlike the rest of the roster except for himself and Rontez Miles vs. the Colts. Btw, Fitzmagic should've been cut after his meltdown upon being benched. "Wahhhh no one believes in me." Any strong owner or front office would've said fuck this guy.
