This is why you are a Dolphin fan and not a Jet fan. Revis's contract, if extended, will go from 1M to 16M, if his demand is met. That's good 15M increase in the pay roll. This is because Revis is playing on his rookie contract. Brick is not playing on his rookie contract. Neither is Mangold. Even after pay increase, the increase in pay roll won't be anywhere near 15M for Brick and Mangold combined.

99.9% of the time Linemen are gonna be more valuable than a defensive back. however, despite my purist nature...Revis maybe the exception. He is downright special and absolutely dominant.
Pass rushers are the most important position on defense in the NFL. They are usually the highest paid players. I'd say that, in this defense, corners have an abnormally large value as Rex likes to use them in constant man coverage. D-linemen come in 3rd but the NT is arguably the most important position in a 3-4 defense because they anchor the run D.
The Jets really need to be concentrating on locking up Mangold at this point. He's the best center in football and has been at the heart of one of the best rushing attacks for 2 years now. If they spend a huge amount of effort locking up Revis, when they don't have to do this at the moment, and Mangold slips through the cracks it will be one of the worst managerial decisions of all time. Mangold is going to get a $50 million plus offer when he hits the market. He might even pull a Steve Hutchinson and get a poison pill thrown in that makes the deal unmatchable even if the Jets have the cap space to do it. They need to sign Mangold early and then worry about the people who will be free agents in 2012 (D'Brick) and 2013 (Revis).
Two good offensive lineman are worth way more than a cornerback. All offense is based on the line, nothing works wothout the line playing well.
Nick Mangold should be the priority. It's ridiculous that Tannenbaum would promise Revis a new contract 3 years before his current one is up. I can understand not trying to re-sign Brick and Harris right now because they are both set to be RFAs (as of right now) but Mangold is going to be a UFA after this year. We can't wait to sign him long-term. It really sucks that Revis is only set to make 1 mil this year because he should be the priority to re-sign before next season (not this one). EDIT: Only Harris is set to be an RFA (Brick is a UFA in 2012).
Not for nothing, you can't compensate for no ass and thick thighs, even from that angle. Back to the subject at hand... I still want to see one more season out of Revis before we drop a bank on his head. If we pay a bazillion dollars to keep the guy, and he takes a step back (history speaking), we're screwed. Mangold and Brick protect Mark. If Mark doesn't become what most of us think he can be, we're not winning a superbowl. Revis can only do so much. In this defense, I would be OK with Wilson and Crow starting. There, I said it.

How about the fact that Mangold is going to be an unrestricted free agent if we don't sign him before March 2011. Brick can wait (and so can Revis for that matter).
Too much it's pretty annoying. It is possible to understand Tanny's position though, he has about half the roster to sign to raises.
All three need to be signed. They are the cornerstone of this franchise...You cant win if your homegrown players leave all the time
anyone who know anything about football knows everything on offense starts with the offensive line. 2 good offensive lineman are worth much more than one good cornerback. You want an offense you build and offensive line.
