Like it or not, if this is the decision, then I hope the team rallies around CP. He is struggling and needs all the help he can get.
That should have been the First warning signs to Jet Fans that we were in for trouble. We are just paying the Piper for last years stoke of luck that got us in the playoffs. This is the team you would have seen last year if not for the weak schedule.
Are you serious? As soon as our season ended, Mangini said straight up that there would not be a QB competition for the 2007 starter..... 'The best player plays....' is a mantra that Mangini seems to have forgotten....
Ahh yes we all remember Chad outplaying Kellen in preseason to win the job. Oh that's right, Mangini gave him the job in the middle of the winter.
What happened to Mangini's mantra from last year, where there was going to be open competition for every positiion and that the best player would be playing ? That must have gone down the toilet with this season!!
Most people that went to camp (including myself) actually say that Kellen outplayed Chad, especially in the last couple of weeks of the month-long session.
I thought Clemens not only looked good this year, but last year, for a rookie, it actually stunned me how together he looked even in the early weeks of TC, 2006. I reported then how much I liked him and reported it this year too. Now, whether or not Clemens is a "better" QB, based on what we've seen (even in the Ravens game), is the huge question. I don't think we've seen enough of him to make that call, because there are so many factors that go into "better" or "best" QB. Just because Kellen has the better arm doesn't necessarily translate into "better." But here's my gut... especially since we are now 1-4. I think Mangini owes it to the team to try Clemens and see if it can turn around. The problem is, there are many other problems beside just the QB postition, so sending in Clemens may give him valuable time and you'll probably see more "vertical game," but it may not have that much of an effect on the W-L column.
i think there is a slight possibility we see KC in the second half next week - IF things get fugly during the first half.... the eagles can bring it and are very stout in the front 4. - kinda like the giants. but i still think it'll be after the bye week. remember once we go to KC we are looking at 15 of 32 games, 2 picks and a few head scratchers. jil
Speaking of genius, I see that Bill Belichick, Mr. Original, invented zone blocking this year. I bet the Broncos are thankful.
That's a positive too.The players knowing that the coach will stick for them went they are down (and at an important positions like QB, not Guard). But this is still a rebuilding process. We were going to have a 4-12 or 6-10 season. We as Jets fans might be getting that year in the second year instead of the first. It'll still hurt like hell, but we should understand it was bound to happen.
The Eagles are Fools if the blitz. All they have to do is what every team does against us. Sale out against the run with the front7 and play off with the corners......works ever time.
If Clemens started from day 1, not that I was in favor of it at the time, we would very likely be 4-1. He'd have been a mess in the Pats game, but would have been up to speed and won the Ravens game. I doubt seriously he'd cost us losses against Miami or Buffalo, and am quite positive he would have won yesterday. Maybe not 4-1, but I would guarentee not 1-4. That's why the change needs to happen now.
Hmmm, last year, Mike Shanahan, a head coach with a significantly better resume than Mangini, benched his starting QB when the team was 7-4. (Well, really 7-3, since we knew the change was going to happen prior to Jake Plummer's final start on Thanksgiving night.) Now, mind you, I was not fond of that move by Shanahan. I thought it was cuckoo. But, the man had courage to make the move with his team sitting at 7-3, 7-4 (whatever you want to go with there) and in second place. Meanwhile, the Jets are a garbage 1-4 team, but we have to wait till "we know the season is over for sure" before the transition is made? What kind of shit is that?
Loyalty is great, but being naive could cost the man his job. His loyalty should really be to the organization as a whole, not just the individual players. They won't be calling him with job offers if he gets canned for being stubborn / sentimental.
Precisely. Knowing the difference between having to make the change because the season is over and the media is on your ass and making the change because it's time and in your heart it's the right thing for the team is two differnt things. Old expression, Eric: Timing is everything. It's not too late, but it soon will be.
How is that working out for the Broncos? They had a chance to go to the playoffs, which they would have with Plummer and they tanked the season to get a rookie experience. Now they lost the heart of their defense, Al Wilson, and this week they lost Tom Nalen for the season not to mention Travis Henry is going to be suspended for a year. The Broncos will not even sniff the playoffs and had a chance last year to make a run but didn't take it. I am not saying that we even are close to a winning team, but don't bring up the Denver debacle, I live here and have watched it play out. In my opinion they are in much worse shape than we are.
