yes he was but he was an OLB which has different responsibilites than a MLB. Its almost like comparing a S with a CB eventhough both are in the defensive backfield.
To compare those Vilma numbers with other inside linebackers: (note: the second number is more important because anyone who missed time would have a lower total plays number; "total plays" defined in post #95) Vilma- 179 plays, 4.3 avg yards for offense Ray Lewis- 49, 6.3 Odell Thurman- 113, 3.8 Al Wilson- 83, 4.1 Gary Brackett- 133, 5.5 Zach Thomas- 166, 4.2 Tedy Bruschi- 65, 3.2 James Farrior- 125, 3.7 Donnie Edwards- 164, 5.1 Keith Bulluck- 149, 4.4 Keith Brooking- 125, 4.7 Brian Urlacher- 127, 4.1 Earl Holmes- 76, 3.1 Nick Barnett- 144, 4.7 Sam Cowart- 86, 4.3 Antonio Pierce- 111, 4.2 Jeremiah Trotter- 127, 4.4 Derek Smith- 123, 4.9 Lofa Tatupu- 114, 4.7 Shelton Quarles- 134, 4.2 Lemar Marshall- 103, 5.3
THEY ARE NOT SPLITTING TIME.....READ MY ABOVE POST....WAY TO JUST IGNORE IT WHEN I PROVE YOU WRONG YOU FAKE In the 3-4 there are 2 ILB's.....2......two.....TWO......
Cakes, A while back, I think Jaywayne went through every single play from last year that Vilma was in and of course it proved that champ is wrong about 5 yards from scrimmage, but you know Champ, once he reads something that proves his point, he sticks by it even if it is proven incorrect. I believe that at least half his tackle were either behind or at the line of scrimmage. Too bad it was on the old board.
I got those numbers from Football Outsiders. They back up my own observations that Earl Holmes and Odell Thurman are darn good players. I may chart Jets games myself this year. This means I will tape all the games and be able to make all sorts of notes on them. I have a love/hate relationship with FO and I'd rather do my own work on the Jets games this year.
Yes, that was a good chunk of research he put together. This whole JV is low-speed argument is simply retarded.
Cakes came up @4.3 yds so that means if you do not do the math 3X4.3= 12.6 yards for each 3 downs. Does that impress U sure does not me? Look if you want to defend him go ahead but you will see I will be more right as time goes by. Now that he is to be relegated by Man to splitting time with Barton it appears the HC is on the same track as me while you are on a side track.
A relative of mine goes to almost all the jets camp practices and told me that barton and vilma are the starting 3-4 ilb's....this coincides with other tc reports i have heard on the net....he also said that according to the formation of the offense they switch to the weak/strong sides, with vilma at where he belongs, the weak side.....what newspaper did you read that states the contrary?
By going 3x4.3 you are assuming that Vilma is involved in every single play. You are also assuming that the opposition gains 4.3 yards on each down. I guess that if it happens there would never be a punt?
If in your HO he is the best player on a team of medicore players certainly does not make him a stand out player in the NFL now does it? Also just like U I am entitled to my HO just like U R to urs. Take my word the sands of time will show me to be correct again just like I was with Herm. Man has already seen it since he is now going to have him & Barton split the position depending on the play expected by the other side
