Funny, I thought that players usually got large chunks of salary in the form of signing bonuses that they might not ever have seen when they renegotiated. In exchange for providing valuable cap space. I can't remember the last pizza I ate that cost millions of dollars.
Kendell has 0 leverage here..Mangini and Tannenbaum will not blink first and if PK thinks he can pressure them by whining to the press like he did in Arizona he is sadly mistaken I believe..That precedent cannot be set now or ever,hell we all know that and I'm thrilled those two are sticking to their guns..How great is these two guys work together like this, you here so much about how their are so many disputes between GM and Head Coach that brings teams to a standstill and we have two young guys on the same page.
Despite how they handled (and are handling) the Deion Branch and Asante Samuel situations, guys are lining up to play for the Pats.
I agree with 88toon, get Revis into camp already. It's gonna get to the point where he is so far behind in knowing the defense, that his first season is going to be practically a wash.
I agree about how they are publicly handling the Kendall case, even the fans knew this guy was going to raise hell, and it does seem like they are shining him on in camp after his bridge is pretty well toasted. Mawae was the same type of guy (media megaphone) and they shuffled him out the door as quickly as they could. His trade value in a situation like this, especially after the similar fashion he left Arizona, dictates that his trade value is probably null for us. Get this guy out of town already, he is useless to the Jets at this point. As far as Revis goes, he's the first holdout Tanny has had since being involved with player contracts for the Jets. If they can't reach an agreement on the number of years (which publicly seems to be the sticking point) then I suppose it could be ego, or maybe it could be that Tanny is setting a team precedent with 6 year contracts for 1st rounders. I don't think anyone on this board knows enough about the current state of the Jets' cap or the plan the team has in place to keep the cap manageable to really be upset about anything in this situation other than a young player not being in the early portion of training camp. Any other reasons (IMO) are agenda-driven.
Im not so concerned with the Kendall thing but as far as revis I agree 100% toon....it seems to be the norm for draft picks in revis' range to sign 5 year deals.....like all the others this year. sign him for 5 and lets get his ass into camp
