Not sure where you get the idea they're doing a poor job "rebuilding" their O line. First off, it was one of the top 5 in the league this past year. They picked Light's heir in the first round, and another good one later in the draft. Plus, the Pats always coach up the line and it remains a strength. They still have Mankins (until further notice) and even before he came back they did a decent job. If you said they were doing a poor job rebuilding their LB corps, I'd have to agree with you.
I'm not enamored with either of the OT prospects the Patriots chose. Picking Solder over Carimi was a huge mistake. I'm not going to speculate on Cannon's health too much but if he turns out to be OK medically then he'll likely be a better player than Solder. Yea, I wouldn't want to go into the season with Rob Ninkovich and Tully Banta-Cain as my starters either.
Agreed. You didn't mention Volmer either, and it looks like he'll be handling the right OT position for the foreseeable future. I would have been a little concerned if they had NOT drafted Solder and also declined to resign Light, but I'm pretty confident that this solidifies things for now. It would have been nice to see them take a flier on one of the high-risk, high-reward pass rushers (at either OLB or DE), especially with picks to waste, but I guess we should be used to these really anticlimactic drafts at this point.
Dan Marino has been saying this for a while now, if they had all the rules to protect QBs since the start of the NFL many QBs would've doubled their time in the NFL. All these records will be broken now because of the extent the NFL goes to in protecting the QB.
