My prediction, McFadden and Long are off the board. With Gholston available the Jets either take Matt Ryan for themselves or trade the pick to Carolina who takes him. Either way Matt Ryan comes off the board at 6, if we trade with Carolina it is for Stewart. I think NE passes on Gholston too, for either RIvers or a CB and Gholston goes 8,9or 10.
This is a pretty tough year to make predictions...but since i'm here...here we go: Gholston, McFadden and C.Long are all off the board when the Jets pick...so i will say they trade with the Bears for their first rounder, 3rd rounder, and their 2009 1st rounder....in which the Bears select Matt Ryan....and we select Mendenhall or Stewart....and somehow...someway.....Manningham drops to us and we grab him with the Bears 3rd rounder. There...now i can get back to morning booze binge. :drunk:
Just to piss me off and disappoint us all with a move as dull as this team's play, the Jets take a linebacker somewhere down in low teens after trading #6 pick for that move down, and a 3rd rounder. Don't know enough about the LBs to name one, but something tells me the Jets may be looking in a completely different direction, thinking they're outsmarting everyone again. Ugggh! Despite the addition of Pace, the Jets are still lost 2 starters from their defense in Vilma and Hobson and in a 3-4, you need a lot of LBs.
(ILB)Keith Rivers, (ILB)Jerod Mayo, (OLB)Derrick Harvey, and even (DE) Philip Merling would be good additions if they do trade down.
We trade with Detroit and get their 1st and 2nd (15 and 45 overall). With 15th we take Mendenhall, with our 2nd pick take DeSean Jackson, with Detroit's 2nd we take Antoine Cason. We trade D'Rob to Denver for their 4th rd'er then take 2 of our 4th rd picks and trade to move back up to 3rd and take best available d-line or ILB. In 4th we go OL I say this as: Chatman becomes preseason casualty. Justin Miller becomes nickle back. WR gives us Coles, Cotchery, Jackson, Wright, Stuckey. Chad is backup. Kellen gets 1-yr. Brad Smith on roster as QB (potential develop if Clemens fails).
If we don't take Ryan I will be praying you are 100% right on this call. If we go this way and get Hardy and Groves with our next 2 picks I will likely have a heart attack.
With that said I think, if we don't trade down, we're taking Ryan if he's there. I think the CS has to be down on 5 TD's and 10 INT's, but if we can hook Clemens up with another Duck in the backfield... We still have to take a QB in this draft, but I'd be willing to lay off the Clemens haterade for 1 year under this scenario.
With Jake Long, Chris Long and Vernon Gholston off the board I think there are 3 potential scenarios I see, 1 good, 1 so-so and 1 really bad. The good scenario is the Jets find a partner to trade down, to the mid-teens, and they take the BPA available there and also get a sniping shot at somebody like Felix Jones at the top of the 2nd round with their own pick and also have an extra 2nd to spend in the trenches from the deal. Detroit is a very reasonable possibility for a deal as are Denver and Chicago, all of whom would jump at the chance to get McFadden. The so-so scenario is they either take McFadden, who I don't like at all in the Michael Vick/Pacman Jones era, since he seems to think he's special and doesn't have to play by the rules. That gives him 3 different ways to bust with injuries, performance and personality all in play. Or they take Rodgers-Cromartie or possibly McKelvin and give away a bit of value on the pick without adding the pass rusher they need. The really bad scenario is that they panic and trade up, yet again, to take Chris Long, Matt Ryan or even Vernon Gholston. This would be another nail in the coffin for the next half decade or so. You need talent and numbers in the NFL and the Jets are just loaded with JAGs and worse at the moment. This is mainly because they keep trading up in the draft and losing their own proven free agents. We're close to rock bottom at the moment in this regard.
i think they can 'get lucky' with a few players by staying at $6, BUT, a trade-down IMHO gives them a better shot at turning team around in long run.
Too many people saying '[player name], if he's there'. So, do you think that player will actually be there??? Also still too many saying things like 'we should trade down', without saying with who and for what! It's too easy to say the first part, but would you be happy if all we're only offered was a late first and a 5th or something? Who actually wants to move into the 6th spot and is willing to pay the price? I don't think anyone is. I suspect DMC is gone at #4, but if he falls to us, we have to take him. If Golston drops pass #4, but our scouts think he's a workout warrior, there will still be some pressure to take him. If he's someone our scouts actually covet as a good fit for our 3-4 defense, I suspect he'll be gone at #5, maybe the Pats will give up a 4th or 5th and move up two spots to steal him from us. KC won't lose Albert (if that's who they want) by dropping two spots. I think what will actually happen is that the Jets want to move down, but get stuck at #6 and end up reaching for DRC. We need a corner, and DRC has the best potential at that position. I don't think anybody will trade up for Matt Ryan, he'll fall like QB's of the last few years have fallen. Ellis won't get anybody to jump up either. This is what I'm thinking today, let's see what happens over the next few days.
If we take Stewart over Mendenhall at #13 I might go out and jump off of the tallest building I can locate. Stewart in the 20's for us....maybe. #13? Dear lord no, HB isn't even that big of a need, but if McFadden is there I am all for it.
Gholston. I am a little concerned the Pats may try to leapfrog us in deal with Chiefs if Gholston is there though.
I'm not very good at predicting trades but I'll go out on a limb here and call a wild one (probability of it occuring is about the chances of my winning the lottery, but I'll look like a genious if it happens, a rarity, and an idiot if it doesn't, 99% of my life ) Jets Trade D-Rob and the #6 pick to the Raiders for the Raiders #4 Pick and a 6th rounder from Oakland. Jets draft Ghoulston ahead of the Chiefs and the Raiders take McFadden at #6. I think our running game with the additional line support we got this year will be just fine and I don't like taking running backs in the top 10. Shelf life is too short.
