Ignore is very under-rated in my opinion. It almost perfectly solves the problem of getting offensive viewpoints and posters off the view screen entirely. It solves the troll problem perfectly.
How ironic is it that after being an asshole to just about everyone on the board at one time or another, Stokes gets banned for going after the one guy who genuinely deserves it? A problem with ignore is that it hides whole threads started by the ignored poster so you miss very interesting opinions of logic guys too.

Ok, if you want to use your jail analogy, think of being banned for telling a poster "you suck moose cock" like marijuana. Yea there alot of people jailed for it, but is it really doing any good? Jails full and kids walking around with police records over something so small. And we have learned our lesson and have decriminalized marijuana even legalized it in some states. Yeah... I can dog that, although sometimes "You suck moose cock" aka smoking marijuana is that last strike for someone who has been committing the same offense and worse for years and getting away with it, and this is the last straw. And seriously, some people can't help but just come out and say it, and would probably avoid the Dislike button just as they do the Like button. Some people can't be helped.
