As long as the Jets stay on track and dont bring in a scrub QB (and I think all of the FA QB's are scrubs) this is going to be one of the more interesting Jets seasons in a long time. This is when we start to see Mac's strategy develop. Will his draft pics mature and become foundation players?

At QB, the only two prospects at the position in the Mac/Bowles era worthy to start right away were Winston and Mariotta (Prescott was a separate story). The Jets tried to trade up, but didn't have a shot at those guys. So they brought in two unfinished players with high character and work ethic in Petty and Hackenberg. Both guys needed to work on their accuracy. Petty needed to learn the pro-style system. I think anyone who thinks the story is written on either of these guys and the Jets strategy is being really short sighted. When drafted, Mac said both of these guys would sit and be given time to develop. I think Petty showed enough improvement from year 1 to year 2 and flashes of really nice playing that you want to keep working with him. Maybe this is the season he can be entrusted with the team, maybe he needs more time. The nice thing is even at 25 years old, if it takes another year he has alot of football to play. Same thing with Hackenberg. He's 22 years old, a top prospect out of high school and his first few years at Penn St. It will be interesting to see him develop.

So far in this years draft, I see alot of guys getting "buck fever". Thinking the Jets have to land one of the top guys. But I see the same rough edges with these guys as with Petty and Hack. Trubisky only started one season. Mahomes is intriguing but will be a boom or bust pick. Watson has accuracy issues, needs to learn a pro offense and would need a red shirt season himself. Mock drafts have these guys being selected all over the map. From 1st to the 3rd round. I dont think any QB should be taken at 6, but if the Jets like Watson and he is sitting there in the second round by all means grab him. Keep that pipeline stocked.
